You are cordially invited to attend a lecture on
Predictive Health: How to deliver on
the Promise of Analytics in Healthcare
Sunday, February 23rd 2014
Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Center – Dubai Health Care City

Abstract:
The science of Analytics has been transforming several leading industries including banking,
telecom, retails and others. In healthcare, there has been a rapid advancement in the way
medical and financial data are captured and stored through EMR, telemedicine and other
applications. With innovations in Data Mining and Predictive Analytics driving Big-Data
revolution, the opportunity to unlock valuable insights from the captured data becomes critical
to improving multiple aspects of the healthcare: avoiding costly readmissions, enhancing the
understanding of chronic diseases, and optimizing patients outcome. While the rate of
adoption of analytics by healthcare stakeholders has been limited by several factors including
concerns over patient confidentiality, the same primary challenge that persists across all
other industries also applied to healthcare; that is, how to build an effective analytics roadmap
within the organization, what are the right mix of technologies and resources needed to
employ complex analytical algorithms. Most importantly to decision makers, however, is how
to achieve all this economically without compromising the informational value created.
