All debugging changes were backed out. I did leave a copy of your unmodified /etc/passwd as /etc/passwd.orig in case you want to back this out later. "pkgadd: ERROR: checkinstall script did not complete successfully" This is a known and documented problem related to the fact that the patchadd, the patchrm, and the pkgadd commands sometimes use the CHECKINSTALL script to complete the operation and this scripts runs as NOBODY on the target system. The following suggestion can be found in the Solaris Operating Environment Frequently Asked Questions section at the (http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/misc/solaris2faq.html) Web site: You can workaround this in two ways, one is to make sure that the user "nobody" can read all patch files and execute a "pwd" in the patch directory or add an account "install" to /etc/passwd: install:x:0:1:installpatch braindamage:/:/bin/true Installpatch and patchadd use "nobody" as a fallback if it cannot find the "install" user. -Michael McGarrah Systems Programmer - SCSA RHCE MCP NNCDS NC Community College System phone: (919)807-7198 GGG+ +, !*'* # & $& + GGG Specifics on the patch issue: Did you review the log files for the individual patches? I had mentioned wanting to get a copy of the file "/var/sadm/patch/112396-02/log" yesterday. It will show us why you are getting pkgadd errors for the first patch that failed. With the Solaris_8_Recommened_log file, we only see the top level errors message that pkgadd failed but not the details of why. As I had mentioned yesterday, the 25 errors may be due to packages being removed manually such as using the 'rm' command instead of 'pkgrm' to remove a package or other reasons like the EasySpooler install overwriting package managed files. >>> Tara Williams 9/15/2005 6:29:48 PM >>> Hi Michael, The cluster install still gave us too many 5 and 25 codes. I think we'll postpone the upgrade and use the scheduled downtime tomorrow to figure out all the issues with our patches. Either Matt or I will be in touch with an update tomorrow.
