Jean Vandersall made her New York debut at Town Hall. She frequently appears with chamber ensembles throughout Long Island. Eddie Costello presents an exciting and entertaining look at the modern day Gold Rush that has thousands of weekend prospectors digging through everyday items in other people’s garages. Mr. Costello’s expertise is as essential as a mule and a pick-axe to modern day prospectors who want to learn how to pan out the gold nuggets from the endless stream of garage sale junk. Long Island String Quartet VOICES presents “Petits Fours” (N) Sunday, March 6, 2:00 p.m. The Long Island String Quartet featuring Rose-Marie Johnson, Judith Spokes, Elizabeth Nilsen, and Amy Camus will perform pieces by Beethoven, Webern, and Mendelssohn. The quartet has performed in such places as the Wang Center at SUNY Stony Brook, Hofstra University, and the Heckscher and Parrish Art Museums. The ensemble will premiere a new work for baritone and string quartet by Richard Brooks, professor emeritus and former chairman of the music department of Nassau Community College. All are welcome. It has also seen its share of catastrophies such as the Challenger and Columbia missions. In this lecture presented by The Science Club of Long Island, NASA’s Dr. Frank Sulzman will discuss the future of U.S. space exploration, including the possibility of a manned mission to Mars. The Newbery Medal is given annually to the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. The prestigious 15-member selection committee reviews books during the year before selecting the Newbery Medal winner which is announced at the ALA Annual Conference in January. Make reading aloud part of your family’s daily routine with the Library’s new Read to Your Bunny Bag. The Bookmark Spot AARP Tax Aid Registration begins at East Northport for Story Parade AARP Tax Aid (EN) 9 am-1 pm *On My Own (EN) 9:30 am & 10:30 am *Music for Little Ones (N) 10 am & 11 am *Story Parade (EN) 4 pm *Suffolk Health Awareness & Resource Education (N) 6:30 pm *Pre-registration or tickets required for this program. Occupancy of our meeting room is limited. Enrollment in our programs is limited, with preference given to library card holders. Tickets limited to 2 per patron on the first day of registration. -7- (EN) Thursdays, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (N) Fridays, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. AARP counselors, trained by the IRS, will be available in both library buildings through April 15. Your tax return can be e-filed free of charge. Please bring last year’s completed tax forms with you. No registration is necessary. Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
