In The Museum Cove:

A Chord
@ Your Library
The Northport Library Museum Cove is pleased
to present its newest exhibit and program series,
Striking a Chord @ Your Library, featuring
The Long Island Philharmonic. The exhibit opens in
September and will run through December. Among
the materials that children will enjoy are musical
instruments, photographs, posters, concert programs,
sheet music, recordings, and books.
The Long Island Philharmonic was founded in
1979 by folk singer Harry Chapin in collaboration
with Maestro Christopher Keene and several area
business leaders. Now entering its 23rd season, the
Philharmonic recently appointed David Wiley as its
fourth music director. Mr. Wiley is admired as one of
the most dynamic young music directors in America
and one of his immediate goals is to deepen the
orchestra’s roots in the community.
The Philharmonic performs a standard classical
European repertoire, premieres performance works,
commissions new compositions, and champions works
of twentieth century American composers. Its versatility is highlighted by performances with artists such as
Marvin Hamlisch, James Taylor, and Al Jarreau.
The Long Island Philharmonic is one of the most
active and widely-supported regional orchestras in the
nation. It provides cultural and educational benefits of
the highest level to Long Islanders.

Giving to the Library
When you make a charitable contribution, you
want to be sure that your money will be used effectively to improve the quality of life in your community. A gift to the Northport-East Northport Public
Library is an excellent way to enhance library services to the Northport-East Northport area. There
are several options for giving a gift to the Library:
Direct Donations: Donations can be made to
purchase library materials, equipment, or to sponsor library programs.
Memorial Contributions: Gifts in memory or
in honor of a friend or loved one are welcomed. Contributions may be made to purchase library materials. Library staff will carefully select materials and
a commemorative book plate will be placed in each
item.
Donations of Materials: Books and other
materials may be donated to either library location.
Materials not used in the library’s collection will be
sold at Friends of the Library book sales.
The continued excellence of our library service
is a tribute to the generosity and support of its community members. We are always happy to discuss
options with you so that your gift can truly reflect
the spirit in which it is given. For more information,
please contact Stephanie Heineman, Library Director.
