4-17-13 [Internal] Technical Bulletin How To Switch HipLink Serial Feeds in the NOC Intended Audience: Warren County Telecommunications DST, CAD/RMS Team, Director Paul Kindell. HipLink receives two feeds from the CAD system - one direct from CAD (COM1) and the other from UDT fed by CAD (COM2) on a HipLink server. If the active server fails in sending messages, the serial cable feeds need switched from the active server to the other server. Step 1 Step 1: Locate the cables in the NOC. They are hanging behind Rack “D” servers and are hooked together to facilitate switching. Step 2 Step 2: Swap Cables 2a: Pick one set of three cables (COM1 or COM2). They are labeled with thin white tape. Unscrew the grey HipLink server cable from the beige cable and connect the other gray cable in its place. swap 2b: Repeat 2a with other set of cables. Step 3: Restart services in the newly activated server. 3a: Go to the other side of the Hiplink rack and use the pull-out keyboard to access the newly-connected server. 3b. Log on to the computer (Username: hiplink Password: *wcpsn100) 3c: Double-click the Hiplink icon and log-in using your division’s hiplink credentials (username: tc.[division] password: tc.[division]) 3d: Click on the Services tab then in the Messengers section, click on each of the red/green circle buttons. Text to the right will indicate the service is stopping and then restarting. 3e: Restart the ‘Alarm Notification Gateway’ service in the Gateways section (below the Messengers section). 3f: If successful, log out from the top right corner. swap Step 4: Test COM1 & COM2 to ensure they are working. 4a: Test the COM1 (CAD) side by doing a TN command (paging command out of CAD) to a 4-Tom unit who can verify it was sent. 4b: Test the COM2 (UDT) side by doing a status change from a CAD terminal on the same 4-Tom unit as in 4a (or ask a dispatcher to do this). *TN and Unit Paging goes across the COM 1 link and Special Reports such as AV, OS, etc go across COM 2.
