Unfortunately, many of our members could not be present that evening, and those of us who heard him agreed that he should be asked to address the Club again soon. Australia. Make sure you do not miss this meeting. Bring along your friends who are into sports and would like to give a hand. Page 1 HANDS ACROSS THE OCEAN good work your Club has done in the past 6 years, and the great work Rotary has done in 100 years!! Invite them to our meetings. No obligation of any kind. No hard sales talk. MICROSCOPES TO SCHOOLS This is the signature project of our Club, with microscopes donated to primary schools in Western Australia and the Eastern States. The microscopes are paid for by the local Rotary Clubs. The aim is to inculcate the interest in science amongst young children. The photo shows DG Olu Olowu of District 9110 in Nigeria (3rd from left) presenting a Photo Therapy Unit to officials of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Lagos. Our Club paid for the Unit, which is used to treat jaundiced babies. Another example of how Rotary is changing lives across the world. INFORMING THE COMMUNITY There are many good people out there in the wider community who want to contribute in one way or another towards changing the lives of the less fortunate. However, they are not aware of the work of Rotary and of the range of projects that our Club carries out. More importantly, that we will welcome them with open arms, and provide them with the medium for helping people, both within our community and globally. That is one of the feedbacks that came through at the brainstorming session the Club held on 2 July 2014. What can YOU do to rectify the situation? That is correct. Talk. To your extended family, your friends, your colleagues, your chemist, your dentist, …. they constitute the wider community. Tell them of the Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay, District 9455 Alinta Energy is so impressed with the benefits of the project that it has covered the cost of 342 microscopes. These will be distributed to 12 schools in the Bunbury region, at a ceremony on 23 July 2014 at the Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. Prof. Lyn Beazley (the retired Chief Scientist of WA and the source of the idea for the project) and Alinta Energy representative Bean Meakins are expected to be present, together with the Project Coordinator Di Collins. PRE-LOVED MEN’S CLOTHES Do you or the men in your family have pre-loved clothes that now do not fit because physical dimensions have changed (lost 5 kilos!)? Mana Inc is looking for clothes that can be used when the disadvantaged men need to go for official meetings and interviews. Sorry, they do not want the tracksuits or the t-shirts with words that bring smiles to your lips. Just normal business clothes that you want to discard because they no longer fit or are of the “wrong” colour. For more information, please contact Ken Collins on 9385 0471.
