What’s new in Star Café as of March 30, 2014
A. Summary:
IT is committed to continual improvement of the Star Cafe. This includes introducing new
features and functionality from time to time. On March 30, 2014, IT upgraded the Star Café to
a new version and a number of things have changed as a result of that upgrade.
B. Key Points:
 IT is committed to continual improvement of the Star Cafe.
 On March 30, 2014, IT upgraded the Star Café from version 4.5 to version 5.0
 Periodic upgrades are necessary if we want to take advantage of new features
 Among other things, you will notice differences in navigation, including top links.
 This upgrade is the first of many that you will experience as time passes.
 Your feedback and participation are a necessary part of making Star Café better
C. Details:
On Sunday, March 30th, 2014, the Star Café was upgraded from version 4.5 to version 5.0.
There were many technical changes behind this upgrade but probably the most important thing
you might want to know is that all of our Star Café sites are now on the SharePoint 2013
platform. This upgrade will be one of many as the ability to take advantage of new features and
functionality necessitates keeping current with new releases of the SharePoint platform.
This Star Point will present a summary of the differences between Star Café 4.5 and Star Café
5.0

New colors, more contemporary, cleaner-looking design and new logo:

Home Page differences
The Star Café home page can still be found at www.starcafe.org. Front and center on
this page you will find a new “site map”, previously referred to as the “Rooms Guide”
The site map is a useful tool for navigating around the Star Café.

Sign-in differences
The location of the sign-in link is now in the upper left-hand portion of the screen, just
above the new Star Café logo

Navigation differences

“Breadcrumbs” are no longer available in the new version of the Star Café.
Instead, use the “Navigate up” button which can be found directly to the right of
the new Star Café logo:
This icon reveals a hierarchical list of links from the current page up to the Star
Café Home page. Clicking on any of the links that are displayed will take you
directly to that page.

New Top-Links: Top links are now uniform across all Star Café Rooms:

Changes in lists and libraries

“Add new document” (or “item”) above list, rather than below list:

New “drag & drop” functionality for uploading documents:
In the previous version of Star Café if you wanted to upload a document you would
click on the “Add document” link that appeared at the bottom of your list. You can
still do this if you want to by clicking on the “New document” link as described in
the previous section. There is, however, another, perhaps easier, way for you to
upload documents:
Upload documents using “drag files here”
To use this upload method browse to the file(s) on your device that you want to
upload and highlight them:

Then, drag them to where it says “drag files here” in the Star Cafe site and drop
them there. They will automatically be copied to the Star Cafe library.
