Subsequent launches should be the same as you experience with the old StarParts. If you have any technical problems please contact your DealerCONNECT/StarParts helpdesk. The steps to authenticate are identical to those you have been using. Your UserID and password are the same. 8-Digit VINs StarParts will accept the last 8 of a VIN rather than the current 9 digits When entering the VIN, only the last 8 characters are now needed to filter for the applicable parts. If you do enter the last 9 characters, the system will still function and return the correct logic. The 8-digit VIN lookup also works with the Shortcut Tool: Cut-and-Paste Cut-and-Paste is available on the Bookmark window for VINs. When on the Bookmark window, use your Right Mouse button to paste a VIN you’ve captured from ECCI. Be sure your cursor is over the record (highlighted dark blue); it does not work if you’re hovering over the gray area. As soon as you click on the Paste VIN Number option, the entire VIN will display: You can also use the Right Mouse button to copy the VIN from the Bookmark or Ident page and paste it into other applications or documents. System Diagnostics The Diagnostic Tool is now embedded within the application If you are having recurring slowness or outages you should use the Diagnostics Tool to determine what is causing your difficulties. Previously, you needed to leave the application to invoke this functionality from the Home Page. Only link previously Added to 5.0 Now you can invoke this from within the application using the link on the Menu. It will walk you thru the steps and then send a report to our StarParts Team, as before. Note: The Diagnostics Tools is still available on the Home Page for difficulties logging in. A Compliancy Check runs automatically when logging in If your computer’s memory and/or your internet connectivity (browser) are not adequate for optimal system function, you will automatically see a notice on the StarParts Menu: [PC Not Compliant]. This does not mean that the StarParts system will not run. It only means that you may experience slow navigation and are at risk for system “crashes.” It is not necessary for you to do anything to invoke this compliancy tool. It runs each time you log in. However, if you need to determine what is not compliant, click on the [PC Not Compliant] message on the menu to invoke the Dealer Information screen. Note that in this case the system memory is insufficient to prevent occasional system lockup. Note that there is a link on the bottom of the System Diagnostics Results screen (labeled Dealer Information) that allows you to view the minimum configuration needed to run StarParts 5.0. No upgrades should be needed to run StarParts 5.0. All-Makes Catalog Access the All-Makes Catalog from within the application Use the All-Makes link on the Menu to access the All-Makes Catalog. It is no longer necessary to return to the Home Page to do so. Electrical Connectors Look up the Electrical Connectors from within the application Click on the Elec Connectors link on the Menu to access the list pertaining to your selected vehicle. After confirming your understanding that not all repair kits are available for all vehicles... ... select the Model Year and Platform you wish to research. All electrical connectors for the selected MY/Platform are displayed. Vehicle Fluids A Fluids Icon will pull up the Specifications document with all the fluids for the current vehicle An icon has been added to the Task Bar that will display all of the fluids associated with the currently selected vehicle limited to model years 2006 - current. The fluids are specific to the MY/Fam or VIN you have selected. Save as PDF Illustrations and Parts Lists can be created in a PDF for emailing Use the Print icon on the Tool Bar to capture illustrations and parts lists in a .pdf format for emailing: You will be presented the option to print, as before, but the result will be a .pdf document: Click on File to see the options to print, save or email: This Print to PDF function works for Bookmark, Ident, Parts and Search parts results screens. Sales Code Displays When you hover over a Sales Code, the applicable Code descriptions display If a part description lists one or more Sales Codes, you can display the definition of the Sales Code(s) just by holding your cursor over the line item. Only those codes displayed on that line will be detailed in the display and all listed will be included in the drop down. You will not have to scroll through the list to capture them all. Again, only the descriptions for the listed codes will appear in the Callout Window. This functionality also works with 2-digit Sales Codes: Reman/Alternate Parts Display Reman and/or Alternate parts will now show in the supersession window Previously, Reman parts displayed on the Parts Lists of illustrations, but were not integrated with any superseded parts. Now, when you open a Supersession Note, Reman parts will display with the associated OE Parts: Note that in this example, the Reman parts are displayed as the 2nd and 3rd line items, associated with 04609365AE.
