A VISUAL STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO REGISTER AND QUALIFY

A VISUAL STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO REGISTER AND QUALIFY
FOR A WORLD OR EUROPEAN TRIATHLON AGE-GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP
1) JOIN your home nation association. Click on a logo below to join your home nation. You
will need to have a valid membership to qualify and compete on a
GE Great Britain Age-Group Team.
2) ENTER a qualifying event for the championship(s) you would like to qualify for.
Enter a qualification race directly through the race organiser. These races can be located on the Age-Group events
page or on the championship event page.
You can enter a qualifying race (step 2) and then register your intent with British Triathlon (step 3) or register your
intent (step 3) and then enter a race (step 2). It doesn’t matter which way round you do this as long as you meet the
appropriate deadlines.
The deadline to register your intent will be 5pm on the Friday before your qualification race so it’s often better to
get an entry into a qualification race first as they will often have an earlier closing date or could close their entries
due to reaching maximum capacity. Once you have secured your entry you can then register your intent.
Not all championships will require you to enter specific qualification races. Check the championship event page for
specific qualification details for the championship you want to qualify for.
3) REGISTER your intent to qualifying for a championship.
Registering your intent is £10 and can only be paid online by Home Nation members. It is completely separate to any additional notification, fee or ticked boxes on a
race entry form. For championships that have qualification races the deadline to register by will be 5pm on the Friday before your qualification race. For events that do
not have specific qualification races there will still be a deadline to register by but you are expected to register your intent after you have completed the race you wish
to submit for qualification. Please note: You are registering your intent to qualify for a championship not a qualifying race. You do not need to inform anyone which
qualifying race(s) you are doing.
ii)
i)
Log into your membership using your email or membership number & password.
When you are logged in select ‘Age-Group’ and ‘Register for an Event’ on your
welcome page. While you’re here please check that all your contact details are
accurate and up to date. Especially your e-mail as this will be the only source of
communication for age-group qualification.
iii)
Now select the championship you want to
register for. You are not looking for the
actual qualifying race you have entered or
are planning on entering but the World or
European championship you want to qualify
for. Click ‘more about this event’ to find out
the qualification criteria, the qualification
races and to register your intent and see
who else has registered.
iv)
To register your intent click the blue register button.
This page contains details about the
qualification criteria and the qualification
events.
v)
Follow the on screen instruction to submit your registration. Once you have sent payment and the registration has been
accepted you will recieve an e-mail notification and your name will appear on the list of registered athletes which can be
found at the bottom of the event information page. You have now registered your intent. Repeat the process to register for
other championships.
If you are registering for a championship that does not have a specific qualifying race please enter your qualifying performance as outlined in the qualifying
criteria into the Performance Details box. If you make a mistake or forget something you can edit these details via your membership home page by logging in
selecting ‘Age Group’ and then ‘Edit Performance Details’. Please e-mail the team manager to nofify them if you do edit your entry. You do not submit
performance details if there is a specific qualfying race for the championship.
Refer back to the championships event information page to view the registered athletes at the bottom of the page, which will
now have your name included.
A ‘Q’ will appear in your status when you have qualified for the championship a few days after your race. The number will reflect
where you finished in relation to the other qualifiers. This is one of the ways you can confirm if you have qualified or not after a
qualifcation race. You will also recieve an e-mail to confim selection. The information colum will contain details on where you
qualified or if appropriate what percentage you are on for roll down purposes.
4) RACE well and qualify under the criteria outlined for that particular championship.
If you are successful in qualifying, specific details about the event you have qualified for will be communicated via email. You will have two more steps to complete if you qualify:
5) PAY the team management and race entry fee as set out on the team confirmation e-mail
you will receive once you have qualified.
6) BOOK your flights and accommodation. You can use our travel partner Nirvana Europe
who will have travel packages specifically tailed for the event.

Important notes
 Where there are specific qualification races, you cannot race in a qualifying event and then register your intent to
compete. You must register by 5pm on the Friday before the qualifying event you are competing in.
 For long distance events, cross and winter triathlon there are no specific qualification events that you will need to
enter. Instead there will be a standard that you must have met to gain selection from a race that you can nominate
yourself. Please visit the championship event page for more detail.
 You can enter and compete in more than one qualification event but you only need to register once for each
championship.
 You can qualify for multiple championships, although current ITU rules do not allow an athlete to take part in two
events within a 48 hour period at the same championships.
 If a qualification event acts as a qualifier for more than one championship you must register for both championships.
You will only be considered for selection in the events you have registered your intent for. Sprint and standard
distances are considered separate championships.
