560 Admiral Court London, ON N5V 4L3 T (519) 659-9003 T (800) 265-1235 F (866) 659-9007 www.tlpinsulation.com HOW TO INSTALL FOUNDATION BLANKETS FOR FULL HEIGHT BASEMENTS This project will require 2 foundation blankets TLP recommends using 2-48”wide TLP foundation blankets for an 8’height basement TLP recommends using 1-48”wide TLP foundation blanket and 1-36” wide TLP foundation blanket for an 7’ height basement --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1. Remove the 1st (top) foundation blanket from the bag. Unroll blanket with the metal strap down and insulation facing the wall. Starting from the middle of the roll, staple the 1st (top) blanket onto the sill plate or bottom of the floor joist with ½” staples. Let the blanket hang down. Do not fasten the metal strap at this time. 2. Remove the 2nd (bottom) foundation blanket from the bag. Unroll blanket with metal strap down and insulation facing the wall. Bring the 2nd (bottom) roll up underneath the 1st (top) blanket, just up past the metal strap of the top roll, use metal clips (butterflies) to secure the 2nd (bottom) blanket just to hold it up to the bottom of the 1st (top) roll so they are touching each other. Do not over lap the insulations; you just want to butt the insulations together without leaving any air spaces at all. 3. Going back to the 1st (top) foundation blanket, start from the middle of the roll, working towards the corners; pull downward on the enclosed metal strap right over top of the 2nd (bottom) roll. Attach metal strap to the wall every 2 feet using a powder actuated tool or cement nails. Remember the bottom of the 1st (top) roll should be overlapping the top of the 2nd (bottom) roll. 4. So now that the 1st (top) roll is fastened to the wall, you now have to attach the enclosed metal strap of the 2nd (bottom) roll to the wall. Attach the metal strap to the bottom of your basement wall every 2 feet using a powder actuated tool or cement nails. Depending on your building code, the blanket should be 15” above the finished floor level of the basement or to the bottom of the basement floor. 5. Going back to the 1st (top) foundation blanket, use the 16” poly flap provided at the top of each roll, cut and fold this poly flap up into the header space. Staple the poly to the bottom of the sub floor and to each side of the floor joists. (header plate insulation not included) This provides a vapour barrier for the existing header plate insulation which helps reduce any air flow. 6. With the proper installation of the 2 blankets, your entire basement perimeter will be insulated with a continuous vapour barrier with no thermal breaks from the bottom of the sub floor to the bottom of your basement walls.
