HOW TO LUBRICATE THE RS4 & RS4X LINKS OR CHANGE THE O´RINGS For the maintenance process, or to change the # 5.3 o-rings adjacent to the # 5.1 link assembly on Rotor Cranks model RS4x, disassemble the Rotor System modularly as follows: For model RS4 Rotors use the special URS-4 tool to remove the notched locking nut on the non drive side, then proceed in accordance with these instructions. 1. Remove the left crank in accordance with Step-13 of the Installation Instructions. • First loosen the two # 3.3 pinch bolts a few turns. • Now loosen the #3.2 axle bolt. 2. Tap the axle from the non-drive side, pushing the axle and right crank assembly out of the bottom-bracket cartridge. Use a small piece of wood between the axle and your mallet to protect the end of the axle from damage. As you tap the axle, pull on the right crank; the entire right crank and axle will slide out. O ´ r in g s L IN K L IN K O ´ r in g s 3. ONLY!!! If the # 5.1 links do not fall off into your hands they might need to be tapped off of the pivot and inner ring. The tolerance between the pivot inner ring and the bearing inside the link it quite close. If tapping the link to remove it is necessary, use a pencil like steel tool with a blunt end (not a center punch) and placing the pencil like steel tool through the chainring windows from the non-drive side, gently tap the link off of the pivot & inner ring. Be careful not to lose the four (4) # 5.3 O-rings which are easily replaceable; they are a standard size 17.5 x 1.5mm and readily available at stores selling metric o-rings or from Rotor Dealers/Distributors. 4. Clean and lubricate the axle bearings, link bearings and the o-rings. Use a high quality water resistant lubricant such as FINISH LINE TEFLON-FORTIFIED GREASE. Visit www.finishlineusa.com to locate a Finish Line retailer in your area. 5. Reassemble the system following the previous steps; 3, 2, 1. The o-rings should not protrude out of the links. If you have trouble making the o-rings seat properly into the link, use a small amount of grease to hold the o-ring in place. After a few tries you will become an expert. Be certain the right crank assembly and links are completely back in their original position. NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the chainrings or to readjust the regulation point or loosen the left or right side cups to accomplish this maintenance process. Rev 04/06
