What is CT Velocity Beach?

What is CT Velocity Beach?
CT Velocity Beach is the outdoor version of what you experience in indoor club volleyball – with a few changes
and a little more flexibility. We are sanctioned by USA Volleyball and the New England Region Volleyball
Association. Our mission is to grow the sport of beach volleyball among juniors and to identify and develop
beach athletes for higher levels of competition both indoors and on the beach.
The juniors beach program lasts for ten (10) weeks during which juniors learn skills, tactics and strategies in
practice each week. Players register and participate as individuals in a group setting and have opportunities to
partner up and compete in junior beach tournaments throughout the summer on Saturday or Sunday.
CT Velocity Beach is for players who love to play outdoor volleyball and want to improve, compete, and take
their game to the next level in a fun and challenging environment with a USA Volleyball National Beach High
Performance coach!
Why Play Beach Volleyball?
 Sand Volleyball is now an NCAA collegiate women’s sport and scholarships are available to
beach volleyball players and indoor players who can play beach.
 Beach volleyball is fun and a great way to improve your skills for indoor volleyball.
 Each player must improve and master every skill of the game. Both players on a team pass, set,
attack, serve, block, and dig. This makes each a better all-around volleyball player.
 Beach volleyball is safe resistance training. The sand acts as a cushion when landing and diving.
With sand moving under your feet, balance is increased and joints and muscles are strengthened
thus lessening a chance of injury when going back the indoor.
 Beach sand is a great training tool for making you faster and allowing you to jump higher when
your return to indoor volleyball.
 Beach volleyball is great way to enjoy the summer outdoors while getting a new look at your
favorite sport, all while improving your volleyball skills.
Coaching and Instruction
CT Velocity Beach is in its 5th season of providing beach volleyball instruction to area
juniors. All practices are designed by lead coach Wayne Holly.
Wayne has been involved in the sport of beach volleyball for 22 years. He learned the
game by playing on the beach, competing locally, and studying film of the best players in
the world. Eventually, he resigned his law partnership, moved to Florida and began
training and competing full-time. Wayne competed full-time as a qualifier player on the
AVP pro beach volleyball tour for 3 seasons and now travels the country as a national
high performance beach coach with USA Volleyball, instructing and evaluating the best
junior beach players in the country in the national beach pipeline.
In addition to working with the national beach program, Wayne is an assistant coach for the Brown University
Women’s Volleyball Program (NCAA – D-I) and a Court Coach and Evaluator for USA Volleyball’s National
Indoor High Performance tryouts. Wayne has trained as a volleyball coach at the United States Olympic
Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
Wayne is a former high school volleyball Division I Coach of the Year (2010). He holds a CAP Level II indoor
coaching certification and a Level I coaching certification from Gold Medal Squared. Wayne holds the highest
national certification for beach volleyball coaching in the country (BCAP I).
As a national high performance coach, Wayne has access to and utilizes the same teaching methods and drills
that are used to teach the U.S. Junior National Beach Teams. The teaching methods in the CT Velocity Beach
Juniors Program are the same methods, and follow the same principles, as the national program uses to develop
the best junior beach players in the United States.
