A variety of treatment interventions will be highlighted to illustrate what works best for what type of challenge. The complications associated with lack of intimacy, sex, issues of communication, conversations about infidelity, and other challenges associated with the treatment of couples will be highlighted. The emphasis will be on creative solutions for work with at-risk couples. Interactive learning formats, including group case discussions, Q and A, panel presentations, and didactic lectures will be used to assist the learners in developing new strategies they can apply in their practice setting. Learning Objectives: At the completion of this course one will be able to explain strategies for helping couples sexual relationship and issues of intimacy; develop approaches for helping relationships after infidelity; incorporate treatment interventions including internal family systems; evaluate difficult cases including cross-cultural issues as they relate to couples therapy; and formulate what works, what doesn’t, and what to do when everything seems to fail. This course is intended for all health and mental health clinicians, educators and researchers, and others interested in the treatment of couples.
