days with the lighting of candles. Adonai has given us His Torah, which
commands us to rejoice on Shabbat and on a Yom Tov (Festival).
There are many ways we can do this, but one of the ways our people have
expressed this throughout the centuries is by lighting the Shabbat
candles as a symbol of the joy that fills each Jewish home, and all those
within the commonwealth of Yisra’el, during these sacred times. The two
candles also represent the commandment to remember and keep holy the
Shabbat.

CONCLUSION OF SHABBAT - HAVDALAH
- hldbh
The Havdalah service closes the Shabbat. The word “havdalah” means
to differentiate or separate. It is reminding us that we are leaving the
sacred Shabbat and going. back into the secular days of the week. As we
do so, we want to carry over part of the Shabbat into the week.
Havdalah is generally observed after three stars have appeared in the
late Shabbat evening sky. The blessings of havdalah are said over an
overflowing cup of the “fruit of the vine” symbolizing our desire that the
week be overflowing in sweetness, just as our joy was in the Shabbat.
The braided candle is symbolic of our joining together in the Messiah
and in His Shabbat and Festivals. We become One in Him and with
Him, the True Light of the world. A spice box containing sweet spices
reminds us of the sweet aroma that Adonai’s Shabbat brings into our

As we recite the Hamotzi, the blessing over bread, we are reminded of a
few spiritual truths. Devarim (Deuteronomy) 8:3 states, “…man does not
live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth
of HaShem”. And, Yochanan (John) 6:35 says, "Yeshua answered, "I am
the bread which is life! Whoever comes to me will never go hungry...". In
addition, the two loaves of challah on the Shabbat table are reminiscent of
the double portion of manna (Shemot/Exodus16:4-30) that was provided
by Adonai as a sign of His faithfulness reminding us that Adonai will take

Z’MIROT L’SHABBAT -
tbvl twrymz
While family and friends are gathered around the Shabbat table it is traditional to
sing songs that are both joyful and glorifying to Adonai. These songs are called
“z’mirot” in Hebrew. There are many Shabbat z’mirot, but the following are a few
popular z’mirot that we may sing. May the Shabbat table be surrounded with light
and joy on our holy day. L’chaim b’Yeshua! To life in Yeshua!
COME MY BELOVED - L’CHA DODI -

When we sing “L’cha Dodi”, we are reminded of the connection the Shabbat

and His people (Shemot/Exo. 31:13). In this context, much like a wedding

who He is betrothed to. The ring itself can symbolize the Kallah (Bride). The
Shabbat is also connected to the Bride in a prophetic sense because He will
gather His Bride unto Himself during the millenial Shabbat (Rev. 19:7). It will
be during this time that there will be a great wedding feast, and a time where He
will dwell with His Bride forever. As the Bride of Adonai, we must embrace
the Shabbat and allow Adonai to dawn the Shabbat upon our hand as a sign
between He and Yisra’el.

* Chorus:
Come my beloved to meet the Bride, let us receive the
presence of Shabbat.
Vs.1: “Keep” and “remember” were uttered as one, the God who is
unique let us hear. The Lord is one and His name is one, for fame, and
for splendor and for praise. *
Vs. 2: Let us come and go to meet Shabbat, for she is a source of
blessing. From the ancient beginning she was royal, the last action was
the first intention. *
Vs. 3: The Sanctuary of The King, City of Majesty, arise, emerge
from among the turmoil. You have dwelt much in the valley of tears, and
He shall have pity upon you and has spared. *
Vs. 4: Shake yourself from the dust, arise, wear your glorious garments,
my people. By the hand of Yishai’s son, the Bethlemite, draw near to
my soul, redeem it! *
Vs. 5: Awaken, awaken, for your light has come. Arise! Shine! Wake
up, wake up, speak out a song, the glory of Adonai is revealed upon
you.*
Vs. 6: Don’t be ashamed and don’t be downcast. Why be brought low
and why moan? In you are sheltered the poor of my people, and The
City will be built on her ruins. *
Vs. 7: And your plunderers shall be for spoil and all who destroy you
will be far away. Your God shall rejoice over you, as a Groom rejoices
over a Bride. *
Vs. 8: To the right and left you will break out. And, you will revere
Adonai. By the hand of the man of Peretz’s son we will be glad and we
will rejoice. *
Vs. 9: Come in peace, the crown of her husband, both in gladness and
in cheer, amidst the faithful, precious people. Come O Bride! Come
O Bride! *
