To guarantee we keep a seat for you at Seneca please complete the four steps below
and read the information in this Acceptance Guide carefully.

Go to ontariocolleges.ca and accept our offer of
admission. The offer expiry date is on your letter. Your
username and password will be required to log in to your
online ontariocolleges.ca account. You will be able to
review our offer of admission and confirm the program of
your choice.
Do not to let this date go by without making a payment
or without making arrangements for financial assistance.
If you fail to make a payment by June 14, 2013, your seat
may be offered to the first applicant on the waiting list.
Fees for your programs have not been set at this time but
once the fees are confirmed, you will be sent an invoice.

As a new Seneca student, you are required to write the
Skills Assessment, even if you have already written a
pre-admissions test. The Skills Assessment is a tool to
determine your academic placement in English and/or
Mathematics. We need the results of this assessment
to prepare your timetable. Students accepted into a
graduate certificate program do not need to complete this
assessment. While there is no assessment fee, if you
do not write the assessment on time, you may incur a
$30.00 late fee.
If you require academic accommodations related to a
disability, please see a counsellor prior to arranging the

requirements because you are still in school or
completing a course required for admission, you have
until the first day of classes to complete your studies

WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL OR DROP ONE OF MY HIGH SCHOOL SUBJECTS?
If you fail or drop a subject, do not obtain your Secondary School Graduation Diploma or do not complete your upgrading program to
the Grade 12 level, you must contact the Admissions Office immediately at [email protected] or 416.493.4144, ext. 22840.
There are options available which may enable you to qualify for admission. If you do not let us know before your program starts, you may
forfeit your seat in the program.

Withdrawal after Paying My Tuition Fees
Be sure you do not miss your payment deadline without
contacting us. This applies to all new students including those
who may be applying or waiting for Ontario Student Assistance
(OSAP).
Withdrawing from the College impacts your eligibility for a refund
and your academic standing.
If you miss the payment date and do not contact us, we may offer
your seat to the first person on the waiting list.
The expiry date is the last possible date for your tuition
payment to arrive at Seneca College in order to guarantee your
seat in the program.

If you are accepted after the payment deadline, your due date
will be stated on your fee invoice. This date is usually within two
weeks or less of receiving the offer of admission.
Waiting for OSAP
You must contact the Admissions Office well before the fee
payment expiry date and sign a Fee Payment Promissory Note
Contract with Seneca. Be sure not to wait until the last minute
to make these arrangements. Additional information regarding
payment options are available on the following page.

In order to officially withdraw, you must notify the Registration
Office in writing of your intent to withdraw. This notification can
be submitted by registered mail, by fax at 416.493.3958 or in
person within the published timelines. Not attending class and/
or telling the professor of your intention to withdraw are not
acceptable notifications. The date your letter is received in the
Registration Office will be the official date of your withdrawal.
Full-Time or Reduced Course-Load Day Students
Withdrawing from a Program
Academic Standing
• Withdrawal from the College before the tenth day of scheduled
classes will delete any reference in the student academic
record.
• Withdrawal from the College after the tenth day of scheduled
classes and before the Final Withdrawal Date as published by
the Registrar will result in the grade designation “***“ on the
student academic record and no tuition fees will be refunded.
• Withdrawal from the College without written notification to the
Registration Office by the Final Withdrawal Date or withdrawal
after the Final Withdrawal Date will result in the appropriate
grade designation “DNA” or “F” and no tuition fees will be
refunded.
Note: See Academic Policy Section 11.2 for timelines related to
“Discontinuing a Subject”.
Payment Options
(Payment Options pertain to domestic students only. New International students must pay full fees by the fees deadline.)
Payment Option A
Full semester one fees should be paid before the due date on your invoice. Students paying full fees
by the due date will not incur a late payment charge.
Payment Option B
If you are experiencing financial difficulty and have applied for a student loan (OSAP), a partial payment
of $400.00 is required by the due date on your invoice. However, if you choose Payment Option “B”, please
consider the following:
• A $65.00 late fee payment charge will automatically be applied to your student account.
• A Promissory Note form must be submitted with payment. This form indicates when the balance of fees are
to be paid, normally within two weeks of the start of classes; however, once notified of your OSAP loan, it
should be negotiated immediately and not delayed until the balance of fees are due. The Promissory Note
may be completed when making an in-person payment or may be downloaded, printed and mailed with

Tuition Fees Refund
(This does not apply to international
students. International students have
a separate fee refund policy.)
In accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, if official notification
of withdrawal is submitted on or before the tenth day of classes:
• Full tuition fees, less $100.00 will be refunded.
• Fees collected in advance for future semesters will be refunded in full.
Pay Online
Pay online using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Interac.
• Log onto SIRIS: https://siris.senecac.on.ca/
• Select “Account Information” or “Fees Invoice”.
• Click the “Pay Online” button.
Your payment will be processed immediately and applied to your account. You will receive an email
confirmation for the transaction.
Pay at a Canadian Financial
Institution
Take your Student Account Invoice, along with your fee payment, to your financial institution. It can take up
to 5 business days to have your payment reach the College so make sure you make your payment at least 5
days before the fees due date on the invoice. If you are required to show your receipt in the future, have the
front of your invoice stamped by the teller or attach the transaction slip to your invoice.
Pay by Credit Card via Mail or Fax
On the tear-off portion of your Student Account Invoice, clearly write your credit card number and expiry date,
then mail it back to us in the pre-addressed envelope. Alternatively, you may prefer to send this information to
the fax number provided.
Pay Using Telephone or PC Banking
Three easy steps will allow you to make your fee payments using this option. Here’s how:
• Set Seneca up on your list of ‘payees’ with your financial
institution.
• Your 9 digit student ID number will act as your account number
• Specify your payment amount
Your fee payment will then be forwarded to us for processing, and applied to your student account.
It can take up to 5 business days to have your payment reach the College.
Pay by Telephone Using
Your Credit Card
Call us at 416.493.4144, ext. 22840. Be ready to provide your name, student number, program of study and
your credit card number and expiry date to one of our Admissions Advisors. We will process your fee payment
over the telephone. Please expect our phone lines to be busy. We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, and
American Express.
Pay in Person at the
Registration Office
Go to any campus Registration Office to make your payment in person. Just bring your Student Account
Invoice along with your payment. Valid in-person payment methods are:
• Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card
• Interac
• Certified Cheque made payable to Seneca College
• Money order made payable to Seneca College
• Cash
Pay by Certified Cheque
or Money Order via Mail
Using the pre-addressed cashier’s envelope in the acceptance package, mail in the tear-off section of the
invoice with a certified cheque or money order. Please make it payable to Seneca College. Payment must
reach the Admissions Office by the due date on your invoice, so mail your payment at least 3 business days
ahead of time. Please don’t forget to put postage on the envelope. Please note that we cannot accept
personal cheques.

WHAT YOU NEED:
1. PHOTO IDENTIFICATION (for example, your driver’s license, passport, or student card)
2. Your Seneca College student IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Note: Dictionaries and calculators are not allowed in any of the tests.
WHAT IS INVOLVED
1. A Short Essay (handwritten)
To measure your ability to write a formal essay, you will have 45 minutes to write a 300-word essay based on a short article.
2. Computerized Placement Tests
Reading Comprehension
You will read different pieces of writing and answer questions based on the content to measure your comprehension.
Arithmetic (not for Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology students)
This test involves operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents and problem solving.
Elementary Algebra (not for Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology students)
This tests your understanding of integers and rational numbers, algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities and word problems.
3. Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology students will need to take a compulsory Mathematics multiple choice test
that will take approximately 40 minutes.

TIMING
The assessment will last up to approximately three hours.
ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATIONS
If you require academic accommodations related to a disability, for example learning disability, physical, psychiatric, visual or hearing impairment,

If you do require accommodation, we strongly urge you to schedule your assessment appointment in the morning.
OUTCOME OF THE ASSESSMENT
Once you have been assessed, you will:
• Be eligible to be enrolled in the English and Communications/Mathematics subjects appropriate to your level;
• Be automatically enrolled in the appropriate English and Communications/Mathematics subjects, providng your assessment has been
completed at an early date. Getting your first semester timetable is dependent on a complete assessment. Delaying your assessment
will delay your timetable.

MAY APPLY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE ONTARIO STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (OSAP). IF ELIGIBLE,
STUDENTS RECEIVE ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE CANADA STUDENT LOAN AND/OR ONTARIO STUDENT LOAN PLAN.
Check the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website at osap.gov.on.ca for updates on changes to the Ontario Student
Assistance Program for 2013/2014. You should apply for financial assistance as soon as you have confirmed acceptance to a program.

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES & AWARDS
Seneca College Alumni Association Entrance Awards:
CRITERIA: Awarded to first year full-time students enrolled in any program. Eligible students must be Canadian citizens, permanent
residents or protected persons, Ontario residents, and have demonstrated financial need. Applicants must be registered in a full-time
post-secondary program in the Fall semester. This award is not available to students in the Winter or Summer semester.
SELECTION: The College Awards Committee selects recipients based primarily on high academic achievement. Additional consideration will
be given to students who have demonstrated commitment to volunteerism and community service.
Board of Governors' Entrance Scholarships:
CRITERIA: There are six Board of Governors’ Entrance Scholarships that are available to Canadian citizens, permanent residents and
protected persons entering Seneca College directly from high school. Applicants must be registered in a full-time post-secondary
program in the Fall semester. This award is not available to students in the Winter or Summer semester.
SELECTION: The College Awards Committee selects recipients based primarily on high academic standing in the applicant’s
Grade 12 subjects in high school. The student’s highest marks in four academic subjects will be used*. Where candidates are of
equal academic standing, factors such as extra-curricular activities, community involvement and supporting documents are used
in the selection process.
*Previous Board of Governors’ Scholarship recipients have held an overall secondary school average of 85% or greater in their top four subjects

Head Start Entrance Bursaries: The College offers more than 500 tuition assistance bursaries of up to $2,000 to
students entering their first year. To apply for this bursary, you must be an Ontario resident, applied for OSAP by the deadline
date and demonstrate financial need. Information is included in your admissions package.
Other Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards: The college offers more than 400 awards, a number of sponsor-paid

Varsity Sports
Seneca College has a long and proud tradition of sporting
excellence dating back to the college’s formation in 1967. From
varsity sports to campus recreation, the goals of the Athletics and
Recreation team have always been to serve the Seneca community
with unparalleled professionalism and offer the very best programs
to optimize the health and lifestyles of our students and staff while
boosting school spirit and morale. The information below showcases
the wide variety of program offerings available to the Seneca
community through the Athletics and Recreation team.
The Seneca Sting is the
most decorated athletic program in
the history of the Ontario Collegiate
Athletic Association (OCAA) having
won more than 450 medals since 1967. With 15 varsity sports
teams comprised of male and female student–athletes competing
nationally against other Canadian colleges through the Canadian
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), and provincially through the
OCAA Seneca is proud of

Campus Recreation
Seneca College is home
to one of the largest
collegiate campus
recreation programs

people. Seneca Recreation offers cricket, yoga, basketball, dance,

SECURITY
Seneca’s chip enabled OneCard serves as the official Seneca
photo identification card for students, allow parking permit holders
to gain access to Seneca operated parking lots at Markham, King
and Newnham Campuses and allow cardholders, by depositing
funds into their OneCard account online, to pay for purchases
of printing, parking and other select
services at participating locations at
Seneca campuses. The OneCard is PIN
protected providing OneCard holders
greater financial security.
College Security is responsible for the safety of occupants, the
protection of college assets and the enforcement of various college
policies. Security is provided at all 4 main campuses 24 hours,
7 days a week.
A replacement fee of $20.00 (HST included) will be charged to
replace a OneCard that has been damaged, lost or stolen.
Security officers respond to safety and security threats, investigate
incidents, provide first aid, manage access control, provide general
information and control keys. At some locations, College Security is
available to escort students or staff to their vehicle or bus stop. For

For added safety, emergency telephones are located at several
campuses. These phones are directly linked to College Security.
Surveillance cameras are in place at various locations at most campuses.

ZIPCAR
Zipcar, the popular car-sharing service, is now offered at Seneca.
The cost-effective and convenient transportation option is available
24 hours a day, seven days a week at the King and Newnham
campuses to all students and employees, ages 21 and older who
have a valid driver’s licence.
Senecans can join Zipcar for a $25 annual membership fee and
drive for as little as $8 an hour (which includes the rental, insurance
and gas). The membership fee also entitles users to park for free in
designated Zipcar spots at the King, and Newnham campuses.
