Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which
provides key information on the 2012-2013 educational progress for Clinton Middle
School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal
and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment,
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions
about the AER, please contact Don Dunham, principal, for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web
site http://ccsweb.clinton.k12.mi.us or you may review a copy from the principal’s
office at your child’s school.
State labels
The state has identified some schools with the status of Reward, Focus, or Priority.
A Reward school is one that is outperforming other schools in achievement, growth,
or is performing better than other schools with a similar student population. A
Focus school is one that has a large achievement gap in 30% of its student
achievement scores. A Priority school is one whose achievement and growth is in
the lowest 5% of all schools in the state.
Clinton Middle School was identified as a Reward school for the 2012-13 school
year. No label was given for the 2013-14 school year.
Placement of Students
Clinton Community Schools accepts students through residency and schools of
choice. Once a child registers, their records from previous schools are requested in
order for our school to provide a seamless transition to Clinton Middle School.
Students are placed in age appropriate grades contingent on the
progress/mastery of the curriculum from the departing school. Student growth
is measured by progress in the core curriculum provided by the state of Michigan.
During the 2011-2012 school year, all staff and others worked to review existing
data in order to refine school improvement goals. As a result, the building is
working to increase student achievement in the area of reading, math, and social
studies writing. This revised plan is reviewed annually with goals and strategies
established for 3-5 years. Depending on the goal’s progress, strategies may be
modified, placed on maintenance, or “retooled” to provide a more targeted focus for
improvement.
Specialized Schools
The students of Clinton Community Schools receive special education services
through the Lenawee Intermediate School District (LISD). In addition to the
specialized schools, students receive diagnostic testing, school psychology, school
social work, physical and occupational therapy, career technical education, special
needs training and speech pathology services.
The Lenawee Intermediate School District provides educational services to students
from birth through age 26 who have severe handicaps. Students with severe
physical, mental, emotional or sensory impairments may receive their educational
program at a classroom operated by the LISD.
In cooperation with the Lenawee County Probate Court, the LISD operates the
juvenile education program housed at the Maurice Spear Campus. Truancy
concerns are managed in partnership with local districts and the LISD staffed
truancy officer.
The LISD operates special education classrooms in local districts including
classrooms for students with physical or other health impairments and hearing
impairments in Madison; and classrooms for students with cognitive impairments in
Tecumseh, Britton/Deerfield, and Adrian. Clinton Middle School had 3 students
attend LISD classrooms in 2012-13.
Local districts operate special education classrooms open to students from other
districts. Clinton Community Schools placed 1 student with Tecumseh Schools
during the 2012-13 school year.
Core Curriculum
The school follows the core curriculum complete with its strands, benchmarks and
common core state standards (CCSS) in the area of reading, writing, listening and
speaking, math, science and social studies. This curriculum can be accessed
through the Michigan Department of Education’s website at www.corestandards.org
For more questions, contact the middle school office (517-456-6507) or your child’s
teacher.
Teacher Qualifications
All teachers at Clinton Middle School are highly qualified. This important distinction
is part of the federal No Child Left Behind legislation. Teacher quality data is
included in the supplemental data report at the school improvement link for Clinton
Middle School’s web page.
Student Assessment
Please refer back to the data link at the building’s school improvement website for
more information about statewide assessment (MEAP, MI Access, MEAP Access).
NAEP data (a national assessment given to 4th and 7th graders) is also included at
that link.
Local Student Assessment

NWEA, Northwest Evaluation Association is a national assessment entity
from which the district accesses computerized testing in the area of language
arts and math for students in grades 6-8. MAP (Measure of Academic
Progress) test results reflect individual student growth using a “RIT” range.
Students are tested three times per year with the expectation that their RIT
scores will increase over time. Scores can be viewed at; (place link here)
Parent Involvement
Parent involvement has always been a strong force within the educational setting
in Clinton. Conferences for the fall of 2012 had 70% parent representation, parent
teacher conferences were at 72% for the fall of 2011.
School improvement is an ongoing process by which Clinton Middle School
establishes specific goals targeted to increase student achievement. This is
a 3-5 year plan in which goals are reviewed annually to determine what gains have
been made. This annual review is in conjunction with the Michigan Department of
Education. When growth is not evident, the goal(s) is/are reviewed, refined, and
further work is implemented to assure success for all students. We are proud of
students, staff, and community and pledge our ongoing commitment to you, our
stakeholders, as we strive for greater results for students.
