BEGINNING EXPERIENCE ~ A Weekend Away
for a Lifetime of Change.
Serving the Widowed, Separated and Divorced; who
are suffering the loss of a love relationship and may
feel left out by their church, uneasy around married
friends, unsure of themselves and uncertain about their
futures. Helps grieving persons focus on their experience, deal with the natural grief process and offers an
opportunity to turn the pain of loss into an experience
of positive growth emerging from the darkness of grief
into the light of a new beginning.
The next Beginning Experience Weekend is October
24-26, 2014 at Sanctuary of Hope, Kansas City, KS.
For more information visit contact Kim at 816-7394733, or Jerry at 785-843-2079.
You are invited! Catholics from all corners of
Missouri will be attending the 2014 Annual Assembly of the Missouri Catholic Conference
(MCC). This year’s theme is Marriage and Family
at the Crossroads. The assembly will be held Saturday, October 4, at the State Capitol building in
Jefferson City. A strong line-up of workshops by
family counselors and scholars will explore a variety of issues, from how to obtain care for elderly
parents to how young families can manage the
stressors of busy family life. Crisis pregnancy centers will be the focus of one workshop and St.
Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson will offer reflections on developing a lifetime of faith for a happy
marriage. The day ends with a Mass concelebrated by the Missouri Bishops that will fulfill your
Sunday obligation. To register visit the MCC website at or call the MCC at 1-800-456-1679.

BETWEEN FRIENDS
Next weekend, the diocese asks us to take up an unscheduled second collection in response to the request of Pope
Francis to provide assistance to refugee and otherwise beleaguered Christians in the Middle East. This collection
was directly asked of us by Bishop Finn and I know I am
hitting you on short notice about it, but it cannot be helped.
So, next weekend, if you would like to send a boosterino to
the displaced Christians of the Middle East you will have a
bonafide chance. When one is faced with such enormous
evil, as is plainly evinced in parts of the Middle East, he is
bound to wonder what provoked such far-flung displays of
hatred. I do not know the answers to the “whys” but I am
sure innocent people are suffering because of the entrenched prejudices and hubris of their neighbors. I sit here
looking out my office window at the braided/ pony-tailed
girls and blue-shirted boys playing on a clean and safe
playground. As I contrast our settled and serene circumstances to the calamity faced by so many, so far away, how
could I not be moved to the kind of gratitude for what we
have that demonstrates itself in material support to the disadvantaged? Please try to remember the Body of Christ
suffering so far away.
RCIA is an acronym for “Rite of Christian Initiation for
Adults.” It is what used to be more economically called
“convert classes.” It is looking like we could have a rather
large number of folks in RCIA this year. I have told all of
those expressing interest that I’d let them know when the
program would be starting. Well, I finally have that information: RCIA begins on Wednesday, 17 September, at
7:00pm, in the Holy Rosary School cafeteria. I will be
sending a letter to the people who have visited with me
1. Call the Missouri Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-392-3738 (if the victim is
currently under the age of 18), and
2. Contact your local law enforcement agency or call 911, and
3. After reporting to these civil and law enforcement authorities, report suspected sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult to the Diocesan Ombudsman, Jenifer Valenti, at 816-812-2500 or [email protected], if the
abuse involves a priest, deacon, employee or volunteer of the Diocese of
Kansas City-St. Joseph.
The Diocese has a sincere commitment to providing care and healing resources to victims of sexual abuse and their families. Please contact Victim
Advocate Mary Bultmann at 816-714-2387 or [email protected] for
more information.
