Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides
key information on the 2012-2013 educational progress for Dillon Elementary School.
The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws.
The school’s report contains information about student assessment, our Accountability
Scorecard and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact
Gina Ryan, Principal, for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site
http://www.carman.k12.mi.us/dillone/site/default.asp or you may review a copy from
Mrs. Ryan’s office at Dillon Elementary.
For the 2012-2013 school year, Dillon Elementary will be scored on the new Michigan
Department of Education Scorecard. While we are pleased to have reached this
important goal, we are continuously working to improve. We appreciate the continued
support of parents, staff and our community in this effort. We encourage parents and
community members to become involved at Dillon Elementary in a variety of ways.
Please contact Dillon if you are interested in volunteering.
The state has identified some schools with the status of Reward, Focus, or Priority. A
Reward school is one that is outperforming other schools in achievement, growth, or is
performing better than other schools with a similar student population. A Focus school is
one that has a large achievement gap in 30% of its student achievement scores. A
Priority school is one whose achievement and growth is in the lowest 5% of all schools in
the state. Dillon Elementary has been identified as a Focus school.
State law requires that we also report additional information that can be found below
and on the attached report.
1. Students that live within the designated school boundaries are able to attend
Dillon Elementary School. Additionally, parents may complete forms for In-District
Schools of Choice if they reside within the Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools
district boundaries. Families who are not residents of Carman-Ainsworth
Community Schools are able to apply through the district’s limited choice
program.
2. Dillon Elementary School is in the fifth year of our School Improvement cycle. A
School Improvement Plan was updated and revised during the 2012-2013 school
year. Dillon is committed to continuous school improvement. Dillon has
established school wide improvement goals through the AdvanceEd process based
on identified student needs. Specific strategies for each grade level have been
identified based on researched best practices to address these goals. The
activities and strategies will be implemented during the 2013-2014 school year.
3. Dillon Elementary has a highly qualified team of teachers that actively pursues
educational excellence for all students. Our teachers work together as a
Professional Learning Community (PLC) to continuously support our students’
achievement and academic growth.
4. Curriculum is developed and implemented based on the Common Core Standards.
Information regarding the core curriculum is contained in grade level pacing
guides and teacher provided parent information packets. For a copy of the
Carman-Ainsworth curriculum, please contact Mrs. Gina Ryan, Dillon Elementary
School Principal.
5. Dillon Elementary measures student achievement in multiple ways. Due to
increased cut-scores on the MEAP assessment, overall student proficiency levels
were lower than in the past. The STAR assessment has been utilized to determine
annual student academic growth.
6. Dillon Elementary School conducts Parent-Teacher Conferences in the fall and
spring. Our attendance rates were as follows:
