I am told it is Spring, but it surely does not feel like it. Lots going on in the Lowcountry in the next couple of months.. Home tours, garden tours, kayak races, triathlon and festivals galore. INTERESTING (BUT USELESS) FACTS ~ A jellyfish is 95 percent water. ~"Jiffy" is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second. ~Almonds are a member of the peach family. ~Giraffes have no vocal cords. ~It takes a lobster approximately seven years to grow to be one pound. ~Like fingerprints, everyone's tongue print is different. ~Almost a quarter of the land area of Los Angeles is taken up by automobiles. ~Longest recorded flight of a chicken is thirteen seconds. Then there is National Volunteer Week April 21-27. If you volunteer at an agency, please let them thank you for your service. It is one more thing you can do for them. It makes them feel good. Every year since 1963, May has been a month to appreciate and celebrate the vitality and aspirations of older adults and their contributions to our communities. The theme for Older Americans Month 2013, Unleash the Power of Age, has never been more fitting. Older Americans are productive, active, and influential members of society, sharing essential talents, wisdom, and life experience with their families, friends, and neighbors. May 6-10 includes Corps Week. Senior This year’s theme is Making a Difference for Generations. And that is true. Senior Corps Volunteers have been making a difference since 1971. Caregivers are given one and instructed to take out their frustration on them. Some of the dolls get used up and brought back for a replacement. Cotton material, stuffing and thread are needed. If you are doing some Spring cleaning and run across these items, please think of us. Just discovered this important info below. I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner!!!!! It's the shampoo I use in the shower! When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and (duh!), printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning... "FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY." No WONDER I have been gaining weight!!! I've gotten rid of that shampoo and I'm going to start using Dawn dish soap instead. Its label reads... "DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE." Problem solved! (If I don't answer the phone I'll be in the shower.) Sent in by Tom Lufkin...thanks Tom! Yarn is also needed for volunteers to make into small afghans for disaster clients when they have lost everything in a fire. “I entered retirement unencumbered by the burdens of wealth.” Robert Fassbach R E T I R E D & S E NI O R V O L U NT E E R P R O G R A M 8085 Rivers Avenue, Suite F N.
