HVCH recently received the 2012 David Hendershot award. The winner of the Hendershot award demonstrates, based on the foundation’s
vision statement, how our hospital: Advances good health, initiates
health improvement and education by engaging partners, promotes
proven strategies, and advocates for wellness in its community. Using
the scoring guidelines, HVCH hits all four criteria. The highly successful WholeFit Camp community-based program taught elementary
school children and their families to appreciate good nutrition and
physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. Bringing together many
partners in the community, HVCH’s recent summer camp was only
one example of the various types of outreach the hospital initiates
with the goal of creating a healthier community. Denise Kiamy,
Director of Food and Nutrition, along with Wellness Coordinator,
Danielle Arnett, and Diabetes educator, Katy Kudlapur, developed the
program. The award was presented at the June OHA annual meeting.
In addition to the award, the program will receive $1,000.
