Kashouvot is a not for profit pioneering chaplaincy in Israel. We provide professional chaplaincy for patients,
families and staff in hospital, hospice, retirement and community frameworks. We treat patients as a whole person
and help them in their search for meaning and connection. This prayer card seeks to cross barriers of language,
religion and culture to give voice to prayer and hope in times of illness and crisis.

This Mi Shebeirach, a modern version of the traditional prayer for healing, is Debbie Friedman’s most widelyknown. Her melody and interpretation of the liturgy, along with Rabbi Drorah Setel, have made this prayer accessible and meaningful to countless people in need of healing. Out of Debbie’s song has sprung a movement
of healing services, held in synagogues, hospitals, homes and by the bedside of the infirm and ill.
Debbie Friedman (1951-2011) was a composer and leading singer in contemporary Judaism’s healing movement. Debbie had a passion for all genres of Jewish music, instrumental or vocal, that gave “voice” to the
wonders of Jewish heritage and living. Her mother and maternal grandparents were Debbie’s first and real
inspirations. From them flowed her passion for love, justice, integrity, humor – living Jewishly. She identified
with other young people whose Judaism had no language that spoke to them. Debbie used music to express
her Judaism, she translated and transformed prayers. Her music makes Judaism accessible to all those who are
open. It compels our willing souls to pray in a different way to see ourselves and others through different eyes,
find deeper parts of ourselves that were hidden. Debbie’s music weaves the message of one’s obligation to
the community and its individuals – finding the parallel between the texts and the world as she experienced it.
