Small-town charm and friendly hospitality-these are a few of my favorite things about
Clinton at Christmas time. I am as excited as my
kids are, if not more so, for the festivities that
happen here each year.
We look forward to all the merriment of our
town's tree lighting. And we can hardly wait for
Santa to come riding down Main Street on his
awesome, antique fire engine!

Even with all the holiday hustle and bustle, I
try to keep the wonder alive in everything we
do here. And I take time every day, to play.
After all: what am I really but a big kid in a
candy (and toy) store!

Upcoming Events
Here at Sweets and Treats of Clinton and Toys
on Main, we’ve been having a blast decking
the halls and stocking our toy shelves in time
for holiday shopping. Stop in and check out
my hand-picked selections for unique gifts
that the whole family will love.
Kids, have you been nice this year?
In my family, we have revived a Scottish
tradition that dates back to as early as 1840.
A gift-wrapped, cylindrical package (called a
“cracker”) is placed beside each person's
plate around the holiday table. After dinner,
you and the person beside you each grab an
end of the nearest cracker. Both pull firmly
until the cracker POPs open – to reveal
specially chosen gifts inside!
We’re delighted to bring back handmade
Christmas Crackers, with a nice selection of
themed gifts – a little something for
everyone. Each one includes a paper hat and
a joke, just like the traditional Christmas
crackers did in days of old.
We had so much fun with playing with our
cracker gifts last year that we couldn’t help
but share with you. Merry Scottish Christmas!
Each night, after everyone is asleep, the
magical Elf on the Shelf flies to the North
Pole and reports to Santa on who's been
naughty or nice!
Where will you find your Elf in the
morning? Will he leave a note? You’ll
have to just wait and see!

Searching for that perfect, under-the-tree
gift to wow your boys on Christmas morning?
Santa just dropped off some very life-like
construction vehicles from Kettler. If you’ve
ever been over to the park at Gebhardt Field
(next to the Clinton library), then you know
the type of trucks I’m talking about.
We also have a Bruder cement mixer that
actually turns, and uses real water and sand.
These are top quality German-made vehicles
that you won’t find just anywhere.
I also found a really cool, wooden Vespa
scooter from Janod that helps older toddlers
learn how to balance so they can transition
more easily to riding a 2-wheeler. Ergonomic
design and solid construction make this a
winner all around.
Finally, what kid wouldn’t want to wake up
to a giant, near to life-sized giraffe? We’re
raffling one off in our “GIRAFFLE”, so come
in and enter to win. Our drawing will be held
on Dec. 20, just in time for gift-giving!

2 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
3/4 cup molasses

Combine dry ingredients in one bowl. Combine wet
ingredients in a second bowl, and blend with mixer.
Gradually beat dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Wrap
dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hour.
The coolest thing about these cookies is that
they’re made by turning a gingerbread man
upside-down! We plan to bake them this
holiday season.

3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 stick butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons ginger
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Use a rolling pin to roll out
dough to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick.
Cut out gingerbread man shapes using a cookie cutter.
Place on a baking sheet. Refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. When done, use
a spatula to gently transfer cookies to a wire rack. Let
cool completely.
Turn gingerbread men on their heads! Legs become
antlers, arms become ears, etc. Decorate using colored
icing, chocolate chips and gumdrops.
