Program Saturday, October 11, 2014 • 7:15pm The Bohemia Bingo Hall 1644 Locust Ave. Bohemia (Just south of Vets Hwy.) We look forward to seeing many of our Brother Knights and Columbiettes supporting this great effort. Really big! FOOD DRiVe cOntinues THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DON ATED DONA The shopping cart will remain in the lobby until Christmas please keep on giving. Please spread the word, ask Family and Friends for donations. There is no better feeling than helping a person in need! Grand Knight’s Message Brother Knights, This year again, as we have in the past, the St. Regis Knights are hosting a Saturday Bingo to raise funds for the Suffolk Chapter Fraternal Assistance Committee. The date is Saturday, October 11 and the time is 7:15pm at the Bohemia Bingo Hall, 1644 Locust Avenue, just south of Vet’s Highway and west of Lakeland Avenue. We need workers and players. Brothers, this is an event that benefits everyone; proceeds go to the FAC Committee to help brothers in need and the council also benefits. So, if you don’t want to work, get some friends and relatives together and come out to support this worthy cause. Sunday, the 14th, we celebrated the installation of our 2014 – 2015 Council and Columbiette officers with a Mass and ceremony at St. Joseph’s followed by a reception at the Council. Our District Deputy, John Finn and his Wardens did a masterful job and we were pleased to see our new Chaplain, Fr. Henry, installed. Thanks to our new Lecturer, Mike Marano for a delicious repast and to the Club for their help and cooperation. I’d like to see any officers who could not make the installation at the business meeting so they can be installed by the DD. Our Pot Luck Dinner was very well received and attended, with about 50 Knights, Columbiettes, and family members present. It was such a success that I am thinking about another one on December 2 for the Creche lighting. At our Social Meeting on the fifteenth of this month, we have scheduled a combined First and Second Degree. This is a very ambitious project and, as it stands, we are pretty light on candidates. I’m working on some, but we need you to do what you can. Let’s ask some friends and get them to the screening on the 9th. Membership is what drives the Order. For the third year in a row and the fourth out of the last five years, our Squires have won the Brother Barnabas Award. I have invited Chief Squire Chris Gillin to speak before our next business meeting about this great accomplishment. We should be very proud of our young men. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Diocese of Rockville Center have declared October and Sunday, October 5 Respect Life Month and Respect Life Sunday, respectively. The Long Island Coalition for Life has invited us to join Long Island Pro-Lifers on Sunday, October 5 in a show of solidarity for the principle of the Sanctity of Life. I am asking Knights, Columbiettes, and their families to meet at LIE exit 70 south and Cty. Road 111 in Manorville from 2:00-3:30pm for this non-sectarian event to try to change the hearts and minds of people who would trivialize life, morality and family life. We will meet at the Council for those who would like to car pool, but you can go direct and stay for all or part of the event. I hope to see you there. Fraternally yours, Grand Knight God Bless Our Troops “Remember, we can only make this work by all working together.” TO VOLUNTEER, PLEASE CALL Joe DiNero, PGK - 648-0575 Colleen Wyman - 942-8390 Balkam, Laura Benson, Paul Blinn, Pat DeFilippis, Mike DiNero, Anne DiNero, Joseph Festa, Ann Fawcett, Thomas Fawcett, Thomas Jr. Gillin,Tom Giordano, Anthony Harris, Emily Harris, John Hartnett, Maryanne Hartnett, Rich Hoffman, John Johnson, Mark Jr. Lein, John Lipani, Tom Kammerdener, Bob Matera, Joseph Matera, Toni Wyman, Colleen Maraviglia, Serafina Maraviglia, Salvatore McCourt, Lawrence McCourt, Vivian McMenamin, Gerard McMenamin, Rosemary Moloney, Maurice “Mo” Morale, Dolores Nicosia, Joseph Powers, Terry Powers, Bob O’Brien, Guy Purcell, Dan Purcell, Joyce Rail, Regina Safina, Carmela Safina, Vincent Sawicki, Steve Vitalino, Antonio Weeden, Jim Wengler, Bob Wyman, Colleen Willis, Ray Woods, Debbie SATURDAY BINGO - OCTOBER 11 St. Regis Columbiettes Holiday Cr af t F air Saturday, November 1, 2014 10am - 5pm Come shop for beautifully crafted items, the area’s finest homemade goods including Jewelery, Candles, Flower Arrangements, Woodworking, Raffles and Much More Vendors Wanted For information, contact Christine Tallman by email: [email protected] Find the Perfect Gift for Everybody on Your Holiday List!! Each year the Supreme Council recognizes the top 25 Columbian Squire activities orderwide. This year the St. Regis Circle was recognized for their January Dinner Dance honoring the memory of Medal of Honor winner Navy Seal Lt. Michael P. Murphy. This marks the 3rd consecutive award for St. Regis, 4th in the last 5 years and 5 awards overall. Great job gentlemen! Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of theirneighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling His commandment of charity and building up His Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant, Father Michael J. McGivney, on earth accordingto the design of Your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Carlton III PGK Field Agent Ph: 631-676-6211 email: [email protected] We Stand Strong On Ethical Ground Some people believe that ethics in business is a contradiction in terms. They think that in order to be profitable, a company and its leaders must abandon morality and embrace the dark, greedy side that they see so often in the news and in movies.. At the Knights of Columbus, we know this isn’t true. A business can be both ethical and successful. We are. As a Catholic organization, we understand the value and importance of our core beliefs and the original mission of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney. In fact, much of the strength and financial security we provide to members and their families can be attributed to our ethical, moral standards. More than 96 percent of Knights who buy our life insurance keep it, year in and year out. The Order takes this commitment to our members very seriously. This means carefully planning when it comes time to invest. Our professional staff researches all transactions to insure that they fall in line with Catholic values. If a transaction makes them uncomfortable, they don’t make it. “We exclude any company engaged in activity that conflicts with Catholic moral teaching: companies directly involved in abortion, contraception, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, for-profit health care that pays for any of these, or pornography,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “There are many companies in the pharmaceutical and communications industries that would undoubtedly provide excellent returns for us, but which are not in our portfolio because they engage in research and development or programming in ways that violate the sanctity or dignity of human life.” In the end, the Knights of Columbus investment strategy is motivated by morality, not money. Yet, each year we remain profitable, increase our assets and stay dedicated to this vision that will keep the Order financially sound for generations to come. “Faithful Catholics have choices when buying life insurance,” said the Supreme Knight. “But they know that at the Knights of Columbus their policy is supplied by an insurer that shares their moral and ethical values and is guided in all of its investment and sales practices by those values.” Contact me today to learn more about our products. The leaves are changing, the students are back in school and Columbiettes activities are abounding. There are lots of events coming up for all of St Regis. Please keep checking the calendar as a reminder of those things. Not on the calendar is the Memorial Mass 10/5 11:30 AM at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island. This is to remember all deceased Columbiette members of Suffolk for the past year. Also Suffolk Chapter is hosting a Halloween Spooktacular Bingo at St Anne Council 2nd Ave Brentwood on 10/23. A big thanks to all who brought food and well wishes to our meeting last month when we honored Ann Festa, our Past President, for her 2 years of hard work and dedicated service. They will not be easy shoes for me to fit. Our October meeting will once again start at 7;30 pm as we will be honoring Mary as we always do in October and having a First degree. On behalf of myself and my fellow officers I wish to offer sincere thanks to all who attended our installation ceremony and repast afterwards. It was nice to see so many or our fellow Columbiettes and Knights . I look forward to working with all of you to make this year successful. I especially want to thank Colleen, our ceremonial chairperson, who was quick on her feet when hit with sudden changes in plans and a malfunction, Eppie Larke and my sister Kathleen for acting as guides, the Squirettes for their usual great job of serving and a big YUM to the cooks. So you can plan ahead and mark your calendars I want to let you know of upcoming events later in the year: Nov. 1 - Craft Fair, Nov. 8-9 Columbiette Bake Sale at St Joseph’s (see Terry Powers), Nov. 22 - Military Bridge (fun time for all-bring the whole family, friends and neighbors too). Two items to note for December - On December 2nd we will have the lighting of the creche outside the Council, we will be singing carols and there will be refreshments. Millie D’Agostino has arranged for us to attend “It’s a Wonderful Life - A Live Radio Play” at the Smithtown Center for Performing Arts on December 21 at 3PM - wine, cheese and raffles. More information will be available at the October meeting. Looking forward to seeing many of you at these events.
