David P Nelson, Pastor [email protected] CHURCH OFFICE HOURS M-F 9:00AM-1:00PM Submission Deadline Thursday 9:30 a.m. Carolyn Gallo, Administrative Assistant Judy Morehouse, Administrative Assistant Jane Boberg, Director of Music Dale Giannatasio, Accompanist Vicki Carlson, RN, Parish Nurse BITS OF NEWS October 12, 2014 EIGHTEENTH Sunday after pentecost In Isaiah we are given a vision of the great feast to come, when God will wipe away death forever. In Jesus’ parable about a great banquet, those invited do not come, so the invitation is extended to others. In our liturgy God spreads a table before us. Even amid anxiety and hardship we rejoice in the peace of God which surpasses all understanding. With great joy we feast at the table of the Lord, and we go forth to share the wonderful invitation with others hungering and thirsting for the abundant life of God. Jesus tells a parable indicating that the blessings of God’s kingdom are available to all, but the invitation is not to be taken lightly. FLOWERS AND CANDLe Given Sunday, October 12, 2014 The Chancel Flowers are given to the glory of God by Joe and Nancy Mazzei in honor of their anniversary. The Sanctuary Candle is given to the glory of God by Irene Hennessey in memory of Bill Hennessey. You are cordially invited to visit the Resource Fair to see how it is going and partake of a light lunch. Due to the huge success of last year’s Pumpkin Bread Fundraiser for the Food Pantry, we’re going to repeat the event again this year on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16. Last year, 5 churches of the Inter-Church Fellowship joined together and raised $3,651 for the Pantry, which included $900 in supplemental funds from Thrivent. And, in five years, that amount has grown to over $22,250! Unfortunately, supplemental funds won’t be available from Thrivent this year, so your assistance with the baking becomes even more important! Beginning next week, there will be an orange sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall, and a very simple recipe will also be provided. If you’ll be out of town on November 16, the bread can be prepared ahead and refrigerated or frozen. New members, this is a great way to get involved in the outreach efforts of our church!
