CHILDREN ’S MORNING VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - JULY 22-25, 9:00 A .M .-12:00 NOON “Clean Water for All God’s Children” - We invite children (ages 4K through rising 5th grade)
to join us as we learn about what scripture teaches about water, our responsibility for the
goodness of creation, and the care of the physical health of others. Each day will include Bible
fun, creative crafts, music, and hands-on mission work. To volunteer and be a part of all the

MEET & GREET SEEKS VOLUNTEERS ! - Volunteers are needed to help provide refreshments for
Meet & Greet in April, May: 15-16 dozen of a variety of goodies (home-baked or store bought)
and two gallons of juice. (Save/submit receipts to Phil Boggs, Church Administrator, for
reimbursement.) Items can be left at church Saturdays (8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon) or Sunday
mornings (by 8:15 a.m.); place in the kitchen refrigerator marked “Meet & Greet.” Sexton will

POP-UP SUNDAY - Join the Mission Statement Task Force today at 10:00 a.m. for a presentation
of their work on the updated Identity Statement, proposed Mission Statement; Fellowship Hall.
HYMNAL - Next year, the Presbyterian Church, USA will publish a new Glory to God hymnal.
Our Worship Task Force is evaluating it as a possibility for replacing the 1955 hymnbook
currently in use. The Worship Task Force has scheduled one more opportunity to hear about the
proposed hymnal and offer feedback. That congregational session will be today, in the
Sanctuary, after the 11:00 o’clock service. In terms of hymn selection, the congregation has
been singing out of the new hymnal for the last 58 years.
CHILDREN ’S COMMUNION CLASS - During Lent, children learned that the sacrament of
communion is God’s family meal. The bread and cup we share represent the life, death, and
resurrection of Jesus. Sharing in this meal is a special act of worship that we share with
Christians around the world. Many thanks for the commitment and witness of children and
parents who participated in this class together. The 2013 Spring Children’s Communion Class
participants: Ann Foust Bailey, Amelia Beamer, Chase Daniel, Connor Erwin, Clara Higgins,
Libby Jamison, Durbin Stevens, Maxwell Stevens, and Emma Thielecke.
CHILDREN , WORSHIP , AND WONDER (CWW): PRE -K-1ST GRADE , SECOND FLOOR - During
the Sunday school year, children enjoy their own special time of worship and wonder at CWW.
Following the Children’s Time during the 11:00 a.m. worship service, children are excused to
the CWW worship space on second floor (please use the stairs near the Fellowship Hall kitchen,
and turn right on the second floor). Here they learn the stories of our faith and worship God in a
setting and style geared toward their needs and stages of development. Contact: Catherine

FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE “FAITH IN ACTION ” CLASS - This class will be taking a tour of the
Roanoke Valley SPCA on Saturday, April 13. The students will be bringing dog treats and cat
toys that they have made in class for the animals. The group will meet at the church at 9:00 a.m.

JOHN KNOX /PRISM CLASS - In the coming months, the John Knox/Prism Class will participate
in a 10-week DVD series from Union Sunday (a publication of Union Presbyterian Seminary)
entitled “Discovering Faith.” Join John Shoulders and Lee Osborne for each week’s installment
of this special series.

PCC - CAN YOU HELP ? - Presbyterian Community Center needs help to stock the Food Pantry.
Suggested items: beef stew, dry cereal, canned and dry beans, pork and beans, canned fruit,
powdered milk, tuna, rice, oatmeal and pancake mix and syrup, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni
and cheese, and proteins. If you can, include store receipt (it saves volunteer time when
processing the food items). Please drop off your donations at Second Presbyterian Church as
soon as possible.
