Enable our senior parishioners to continue to live safe, independent lives of high quality, in their own homes, for as long as possible. 2. Enable any parishioner to maintain his/her accustomed quality of life during periods of high stress, illness, family crisis, etc. PROGRAMS AND HOW TO ACCESS THEM: Call the program coordinator for the service that fits your needs. HELPING HANDS: This program provides help with minor household jobs such as: Changing air conditioner and furnace filters; installing/changing batteries in smoke detectors; changing light bulbs; fixing leaking faucets; weatherizing; trimming bushes; doing yard work; cleaning gutters; washing a load or two of clothes, dusting/vacuuming. Coordinator: Charlie Wiswall Phone: 314-731-0933 MARTIN'S KITCHEN: This program provides an occasional meal(s) during times of extra individual/family stress, regardless of the reason. During those times when you are weary and long to just "sit at the feet of Jesus" like Mary in the Gospel, and become refreshed, the volunteers from St. Martin's will be your Martha and prepare a warm meal to soothe you in body and spirit. Coordinator: Barbara Krings Phone: 314-731-1893 TRANSPORTATION: This program offers rides to church, medical appointments, grocery shopping, as well as, pharmacy pickups and filling small grocery orders. Please E-mail articles to: [email protected] Dear Martins, We are in the Beyond 50 moment, striving for a Vision 25, through Synergizing, Energizing and Evangelizing of our community. These three approaches of building for the future are expressed in many events, gatherings and profoundly in lively liturgical celebration, especially our weekend masses. Our first Sunday 10.30 masses, two of them until this time, were a delight to witness a good number of our PSR families joining us with our youth group. This is a great example of coming together (synergizing) and celebrating (energizing). The RCIA program which is in the process of being unfolded and the ongoing PSR program are very modest expression of evangelizing. These need to be furthered strengthened. Along with these and other necessary strategies like people, revenue and property management would play crucial role in the Vision 25. Our parish prayer voices these many dimensions and in the weeks to come we will look into those many facets of the parish prayer. In this coming together, James Cecil and Paul Wiswall initiated and have organized a kickballcoming together of the parish neighborhood on October 10 between 7 and 9 PM in our grounds. Please spread the word around. Further there is a greater project on the making: our Parish Play in November 7 and 8 this year. It is a dinner theater. The tickets are being sold for $15 for both the dinner and the play. This would help to defray part the full cost of the dinner and part of the expenses for the play. Kindly spread the word around. But the overall framework that holds us and the Beyond 50 movement of Vision 25, is the very name of Martin de Porres. November 3 is the feast of our Patron Saint. Since November 2 is the solemnity of the All Souls and November 9 is the play weekend, we are intending to celebrate the feast mass not on November 16 at the 10.30 AM mass. To enable all of us to come together as one community and more participation, we are planning to have just one mass on November 16 at 10. 30 AM mass. Finally as I writes this kindly ensure that negative energy and talk does not get a fertile ground in our hearts and minds. Nothing is done in the parish out of one person’s likes or dislikes or whims and fancies. Sometimes what we decide to do and what I do as pastor may not be according to our liking, but that does not mean we become “less church.” The church from the time of Jesus was made of up not only different opinions but at times even opposing beliefs co-existed and so were celebrated. And we are the Church here at Hazelwood! Let us continue to celebrate being a Martins as Martins for the next years to come. Peace and Grace. Fr. E-mail ______________________________________ RESPECT LIFE The readings today speak about the banquet to which God-in the old and new covenants-call his people. The prophecy of Isaiah tells us that God is in the business of destroying death. "On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all people, the web that is woven over all nations; he will destroy death forever." This is the same mountain on which he will provide the choice foods and wines of the banquet. God did not make death; rather he destroys it. He does so in Christ, for whom the wedding banquet (the marriage of Christ the Bridegroom with the Church his bride) is celebrated. To stand with Christ is to stand with life, and to stand with life is to stand against whatever destroys it. Nothing destroys more life than abortion. Over 55 million babies in our country alone have lost their lives to abortion. Oh Lord, may we always proclaim and defend human life as a gift from You and may we find joy in coming to the banquet. Amen!!! CRAFTS Thank you for all the swim noodles you have donated. We are also looking for OLD fanny packs. These will be cut apart so the clips and the webbing can be used for other craft projects. Dear St. Martin family, Do you have a Blessed Mother stature that needs a little touch-up paint? Or one that is unpainted, that you would like to have painted? I would like to help. I enjoy bringing honor to Our Mother with this small service. I’m not an expert, but I work carefully and with prayer. There is no charge or fee or donation of any kind. It is a blessing for me to offer service to Our Lady, it brings me peace and allows me to pray. Mary loves me, and I love Mary. I also will pick up and return as needed. God bless you, Sincerely, Earl Arseneau (home) 731-3475 or (cell) 651-4195.
