Psalm -- I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life (Psalm 23). Second Reading -- God will supply whatever you need (Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20). Gospel -- I have prepared my banquet, and everything is ready. Come to the feast! (Matthew 22:1-14 [1-10]). COME TO THE FEAST "On this mountain, the Lord of hosts / will provide for all peoples / a feast of rich food and choice wines" (Isaiah 25:6). That's what Isaiah tells us today. God is putting together a huge party for "all peoples," to "wipe away / the tears from every face" (Isaiah 25:8). And what does Jesus tell us? The reign of God, he says, "may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son" (Matthew 22:2). When the guests didn't come, the king had his servants go out "into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find" (Matthew 22:9). We are called to deliver that invitation. One of the themes woven into today's liturgy is that of divine generosity. Asleep to reality, people often think they have "earned" what they have. In our better moments, though, we know that all our gifts--even the spiritual gifts--come through God's generosity. Our vocation is to invite people, to remind them the tickets aren't for sale. We can only show up and say thank you. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. PARISH MISSION STATEMENT The mission of St. Gertrude Parish is to proclaim Jesus Christ as Savior: in Word, in Worship, in Service, and in Witness. Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Message from our School Board President Hello! My name is Jenny Kuchem and I am the SGS School Board President for the 2014/2015 school year. My husband Greg Struckhoff and I have two children at SGS. Maura is in 5th grade and Alexa is in 2nd grade. I think I can speak for the other school board members in saying that we are excited to represent the school and have high hopes for a successful school year. We are fortunate to have a great school and teachers who take great pride in what they do. School Board attended a training session given by the archdiocese at the beginning of the school year. The training gave the group an opportunity to understand what the role of a school board is and what we can do as a group to support the all facets of the school. One of our main tasks this year is to work on updating and creating Policy. Implementation of policy will help ensure that everyone is on the same page so that we all can work together in the most effective way possible. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact myself or any of the other school board members. Congratulations!! A heartfelt congratulations to Fr. Phil on his appointment, by Archbishop Carlson, as Pastor of both St. Ann and St. Gertrude Parishes, effective October 7, 2014. Bishop Edward Rice will install Fr. Phil as Pastor at the 10:30 Mass on November 30, 2014 at St. Gertrude Church. A reception will be held at St. Ann parish Center immediately following the Mass. All Parishioners are invited to attend.
