COME TO THE FEAST!
In this Sunday's Gospel reading, Jesus addresses
the problem of fakers, i.e., people who try to win his
friendship by being religious and showing up for the
banquet of the Eucharist (Mass) while refusing to
enter into a genuine relationship with God.
You know the type: They are friendly as long as it
works to their own advantage. They do good deeds
but only when it's convenient. They perform Catholic
rituals perfectly during Mass but at home they don't
even take time to pray. Their faith is so shallow that
distractions easily keep them away from Mass.
When a priest sins, they leave Catholicism. When
their relationship with you requires sacrifice or repentance, they abandon you.
Those who have a genuine relationship with God
are identified by the presence of God's love within
them radiating outward and blessing others, especially when it's not easy to love.
Jesus shows us in today's parable how to handle
the fakers. The invitation to join the party is open to
everyone, but when people want only the fun of being a child of God and they ignore the hard work of
sharing his love with others, God sets up boundaries
against them.
Think of the people you've invited to your banquet
table, i.e., into a healthy, Godly relationship, but
they've tried to reshape it according to their unhealthiness and immorality. We should love them
but not within harmful circumstances. We should do
our own part to make the relationship healthy, but
when others do not do their part, they've already
abandoned the relationship.
God asks us to carry the cross of doing everything
possible to invite them to repentance, conversion,
and healing. However, healthy boundaries need to
remain in place, and when our efforts are fruitless,
eventually God says it's time to let go and move on.
And always, we're to go back out into the byroads to
find those who genuinely value Godly friendships.

IS GOD CALLING YOU?
Vocational discernment groups meet to assist young men
who are discerning the possibility that God may be calling them to a life of priestly ministry. These groups are
designed to explore a priestly vocation with other likeminded men through prayer and sharing vocation stories
and experiences. The group meetings are not meant to
convince anyone that the priesthood is their vocation,.
They are designed to assist you in discovering if the
priesthood is your true vocation and build your relationship with Christ along the way.
If you are faithful, single, Roman Catholic man, between
the ages of 18 and 40, and are asking yourself whether
God is calling you to be a priest, you are cordially invited
to attend this month’s discernment meeting on October
26th, from 4pm to 6pm at Saint Gregory the Great
Parish, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, New
Jersey. Join Rev. Michael McClane and Rev. Tom Vala,
as they share their experiences of the priesthood, followed by prayer and concluding with a great meal and
conversation.
Please register with the Diocese of Trenton vocation Office at [email protected] or by calling 609406-7449. Join us at this exciting time as you discover
and respond to His invitation!

SAMARITAN “HOPE FOR THE HUNGRY”
HOPE CHEST
A can of soup, a bottle of pancake syrup, a box
of cereal, these things may seem like small
items but to the hungry in our town, these are welcomed
nourishments.
Beginning the first weekend in October and every first
weekend thereafter, please donate whatever you can to the
Samaritan “Hope for the Hungry” Hope Chest which will
be located directly inside the Parish Hall on the right
behind the glass doors.
Although the first weekend is our main food drive, we
welcome any food donations you care to make during the
remainder of the month.
There will be a bulletin board on the wall behind the hope
chest with a list of the foods we need that particular week.
Thank you for your donations and may God continue to
bless you.

PRAYER TO MARY
O Mary, bright dawn of the new world,
grant that all who believe in your Son
may proclaim the Gospel of life
with honesty and love to the people of our time.
Obtain for them the grace
to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build,
together with all people of good will,
the civilization of truth and love,
to the praise and glory of God,
the Creator and lover of life. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in
battle, be our defense against the
wickedness and snares of the devil. May
God rebuke him we humbly pray and to
you O prince of the heavenly host, by
the power of God, cast into hell Satan
and all the evil spirits who prowl about
the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
