This activity is jointly sponsored by Wake Forest School of Medicine and the ARP (in
cooperation with the American College Sports Medicine).
Accreditation
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential
Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education
through the joint sponsorship of Wake Forest School of Medicine and the Association
of Ringside Physicians. The Wake Forest School of Medicine is accredited by the
ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit & Evaluation
The Wake Forest School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of
17.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
At the conclusion of this CME activity, each participant will receive an e-mail from
Wake Forest School of Medicine’s Office of Continuing Medical Education that
contains a personalized, web-based link to an on-line evaluation form. Please take
the time to complete this evaluation. After completing the evaluation, participants will
be asked to verify their participation and what type(s) of credit they need. After
verification, participants will have the option to print a CME certificate for their
records. Participants will have two weeks from the receipt of the e-mail to complete
the evaluation and print their credit certificate.

It is the policy of Wake Forest School of Medicine to require disclosure of any

be shared with all participants at the conference.
Target Audience
Physicians, fellows, residents, students, physician assistants, and nurses in both
academic and private practice who are involved in the newly evolving sports medicine
subspecialty of Ringside Medicine. Others who may benefit include athletic trainers,
athletes, referees, and state commissioners.
Learner Objectives
At the conclusion of this CME activity, the learner should be better able to:
• More comprehensively manage the three phases of medical care and safety
coordination for this sport specific athletic event: Mainly, a) more
comprehensively obtain a sport specific history for pertinent and preexisting
risk exposures b) Perform a physical examination focused upon relevant body
systems most at risk. c) Place in perspective the discovery of injury by
understanding the unique rules, regulations and challenges for common injury
patterns unique to these sports. d) Direct and manage the medical team
serving within an arena, ring or octagon environment. e) Rapidly generate a
diagnosis of injury magnitude and relative risk for return to competition.
Gain a realization of ringside customs and standards (or lack thereof) in
countries outside of the USA.
Learn the anatomy and repair techniques of facial cuts most common or
hazardous to combat arts athletes.
The ability to understand the functions, goals and motivations of related
governing authorities (commissions) and the media to protect the professional
integrity and ethics of the physician working in a non-hospital environment.

As an accredited CME provider, Wake Forest School of Medicine requires that
everyone comply with the 2004 Updated Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education (ACCME) Standards for Commercial Support: Standards to Ensure the
Independence of CME Activities. All planning committee members and speakers

Medicine and the Association of Ringside Physicians, implemented mechanisms,
prior to the planning and implementation of this CME activity, to identify and resolve
any conflicts of interest for all individuals in a position to control content of the CME
activity.
