TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Is 25:6-10a; Ps 23; Phil 4:12-14; Mt 22:1-14 In the twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time we hear the story from Matthew about the King who gave a banquet for his son and invited many guests. It is a powerful story about rejecting Jesus’ own invitation and about God’s universal invitation to a new group of “chosen” people. Painting above: “Deeds of Christian Charity” (1575) by Pieter Aertsen SAINT OF THE WEEK: SAINT HEDWIG OF ANDECHS Born: 1174 Died: October 15, 1243 Memorial: October 16 Canonized: March 26, 1267 by Pope Clement IV Hedwig married Prince Henry I the Bearded of Silesia and Poland in 1186 at the age of 12. She was the mother of seven and one of her daughters became St. Gertrude of Trebnitz. During her lifetime Hedwig cared for the sick personally and also founded hospitals. Upon her husband’s death, she gave away her fortune and entered the monastery at Trebnitz where her daughter was abbess. She was also the aunt of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. This is a prison ministry that brings Christ into the prison and helps residents know that God loves them! Prayer is the foundation of our weekend. We can’t have a weekend without prayer. I am asking for prayers from 11 a.m. Thursday, November 6 through 8 p.m. Sunday, November 9. I am also asking for donations for the weekend. It is estimated that the cost is around $350 per resident. There are 42 residents who participate on a KAIROS weekend. My personal goal is to raise enough money to pay for one resident.
