The Sacrament of Reconciliation:
Fr. John will be available to hear confessions from 3:45-4:15
p.m. every Saturday at the church that has the 4:30 p.m.
Mass. The other times for the sacrament of reconciliation are
as follows:
St. Mary Church, Glen Haven– 7:40-7:50 p.m. on Saturday
evenings;
St. John’s Church, Patch Grove-7:40-7:50 a.m. on Sunday
mornings;
St. Mary Church, Bloomington-7:30 –7:50 a.m. every Thurs.
Baptism:
May God bless our new parents! Please contact Fr. John to
schedule the baptism of your child at your church and to
attend a baptismal preparation session.
Marriage:
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Please call
Fr. John at least six months in advance of the wedding. One
of the parties must be a practicing Catholic.
Anointing of the Sick:
Whenever someone is seriously ill, hospitalized, or is dying,
please contact the Bloomington parish office immediately. If
you or someone you know is sick and would like to be included
in the Mass prayers, please call the parish office.
Vocations:
Please contact Fr. John if you or someone you know would like
to learn more about becoming a priest, brother, sister, deacon,
or lay church minister. Please pray for more vocations to the
priesthood and all religious ministries!!!

ST. JOHN’S FALL SMORGASBORD:
Everyone is invited to attend St. John’s Fall
Smorgasbord on Wednesday, October 15,
from 4:30 –7:30 p.m. They will be serving roast
pork, turkey, meatballs, mashed potatoes & gravy,
assorted salads, desserts and beverage.
Cards will NOT be played during the evening.
Twenty-eighty Sunday of Ordinary Time:
Saint Paul tells us today that God will fully
supply whatever we need. On a Sunday on
which the readings are full of rich banquet
images, it is easy to imagine a God who is so
loving and generous. As we approach the
banquet table today, let us be grateful to have been invited, and
let us be generous in sharing with our neighbors, for it is
through us that God is so generous to them.
MASTERPEICES:
October is a time to be grateful for the gift of life and
to remember as the theme from the United States Catholic
Bishops states–Each of us is a masterpiece of God’s creation.
When God created each of us , He did so with precision and
purpose, and looks upon us with love and tenderness, inviting
us to view ourselves and each other with wonder and awe.
Each week this month, we will focus on questions
related to our respect for our life given to us by God and how
we can value it and value the lives of all persons. Please read
the thought provoking insert in the bulletin this week which
explores the relationship between poverty and abortion.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA):
This Sunday, I would like to invite those who are
interested in becoming Catholic or learning more
about the Catholic faith to stop by St. Mary’s
Church basement after the 9:15 a.m. Mass. This
will be an opportunity to ask questions and learn more
about RCIA. If you are not able to attend this meeting,
please contact Fr. John at 994-2526 or Marcia Hampton at
994-2149 for more information about the RCIA program.
St. Mary School Survey:
Every seven years, St. Mary’s School completes the
process to be accredited by the Wisconsin Religious
and Independent School Association (WRISA). Our
teachers, with the assistance of a few parents, examines every aspect of the school and submit a detailed
report to WRISA. This process happens over the course of two
school years. This year we are writing the report and next year
we will host a visiting team who will verify the report.
As part of the accreditation process, we are required
to conduct a survey about St. Mary’s School which will be
held this and next weekend. All St. Mary’s families are asked
fill out the survey and return it by October 20.
International Combined Collection:
TEC Retreat at St. Clements, Lancaster:
The date is Oct.31 – Nov.2. TEC (Together Encountering
Christ) is an intergenerational movement of the Catholic Church
especially designed to help meet the spiritual needs of Catholic
Christians. Although it is an amazing experience for anyone over 16
years of age, it can be especially rewarding for those youth who are
preparing for or have been recently Confirmed and those adults in the
RCIA program. This is also an invitation for those who have already
experienced a TEC to come and help by working on team. Fr. John
Sasse is the Spiritual Director. Jeff Jackson is the director and can be
reached at 608.778.6027. Applications and more information about
TEC can be found at www.kairostec.org.
Next weekend, October 18 - 19, the International
Combined Collection will be conducted in our parish. This
collection is combining the following individual collections:
World Mission Sunday
Church in Latin America
Peter’s Pence
Church in Central and Eastern Europe
Catholic Relief Services
Your help in supporting these collections is critical.
Please take this week to pray about the support you can
provide. A brochure and envelope will be inserted into the
bulletin next weekend for your donation.

St. Mary’s Parish Work Day:
We were very happy to welcome a variety of pets to the
Mass on Oct. 2, in honor of the Feast of St. Francis on Oct. 4.
We were sad to say goodbye to our Chinese friends this
week. The kindness and friendliness our community touched their
hearts and changed them in ways that they will only know over time.
We appreciate everyone who bought Little Caesar's Pizza.
The money raised is used to pay our heating bills in the winter.
The students will visit Sinsinawa Mound to see Czech
musicians on Oct. 23. The Dominican sisters assist our schools with
the cost of seeing live shows to enrich cultural awareness in our
children
St. Mary’s SCRIP:
We have a wide variety of SCRIP gift cards that can help
with all of your fall shopping and help support St. Mary School at the
same time. We carry cards for national retailers, local gas cards,
Piggly Wiggly and Wal-Mart as well as most local venders. Scrip gift
cards may be purchased at St. Mary’s School or at Economy Feed
Mill. Thank you for supporting St. Mary’s School by purchasing
Scrip!
All St. Mary’s Parish members are asked to
help at the Parish Work day which will be
held on October 18, 2014 to prepare the church
and parish grounds for winter. Please bring
rakes, buckets, paint brushes, rags, and other tools
to help with the work.
2014 HARVEST FUND:
It’s harvest time again which means St. Mary’s
Harvest Fund has started. Thank you to everyone
who has already contributed to the Harvest Fund. We
hope all of our parish members will be able to share their
bounty and blessings to help with fall and winter expenses
for the parish. We appreciate all contributions large or
small and thank the many generous parishioners for their
continued support.
PARISH FINANCIAL UPDATES:
Quiltfest 2014Thank You’s:
Thank you to all who helped with and
attended the Quiltfest last weekend. One
hundred thirty beautiful quilts were displayed
in the school gym, lobby and cafeteria. Thank
you to parish volunteers who answered our
call and gave a couple of hours each to assemble the quilt hangers, hang the quilts, sell tickets and take
down the quilts and quilt hangers. Thanks to Betsy Vorwald,
Whispers & Thyme, for the fall décor that added so much to
the atmosphere of the show. Thanks to St. Mary’s staff for
their patience while their school is invaded by quilt lovers.
Thank you to Julie Jentz for her help with planning. Thanks for
Hermsen’s Hardware for the use of pipes to hang the quilts on.
Thank you to Father John for the use of one of the guest beds
for our Bed Turning, displaying 15 quilts on one bed. Thank
you to local the 14 quilt shops who donated door prizes.
Thank you to all the ladies from the area who entered
quilts in Quiltfest 2014. If you didn’t get to the show, you
missed an amazing display of local talent. Viewers picked their
favorite quilts—congrats to Sarah Fenstermann, Fennimore;
Linda Klauer, Cassville; Ione Meoska, Bagley; Glenda Holzer,
Fennimore; and Ashley Reimer, Stitzer.
The raffle drawing for the four
wall hangings, cards and gift certificate
will be held at Breakfast with Santa on
November 30.

Religious Education Classes:
Religious Education Classes for
St. Charles for the 8th through 10th graders will
start on October 15, at 7:30 pm. CCD classes for
grades 1-7 began on October 8. Please call the
St. Charles Parish office for more information if you have not
registered your child(ren) yet for classes.
St. Charles CCW News:
There will be a CCW meeting on October 15. ALL
members will meet at 6:00 p.m., and at 7:00 p.m. Janine Nigl will
speak on St. John Paul II’s teaching about the Dignity of Women,
women’s role in the world today and in the Church. All ladies are
welcome to come and listen to this excellent speaker. There will be
free babysitting, so please consider attending. Ladies should bring
food pantry things and holiday items (candles, napkins, decorations,
lights) that we will wrap and give to a needy family.
St. Charles Home & School Rummage Sale:
Start cleaning out your closets for St. Charles Home &
School Rummage Sale on October 25 & 26! The Rummage
Sale will be open from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday and
from 8:00 a.m.-noon on Sunday (with everything in a bag
for $1.00). There will also be a Bake Sale held in conjunction with
the Rummage Sale. The Bake Sale will be on Saturday at 8:00a.m.
Please sort clothing items by sizes. Donations can be
dropped off the week of the sale. Anyone available to help set up can
be at the school @ noon on Friday the October 24. Thanks! Any

Reflection:
“And my God will supply every need of yours…” - Philippians 4:19
God really does provide for those that are grateful and
generous. This is very difficult for people that don’t live a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical and say it’s just
coincidence. If you are skeptical, try living a stewardship lifestyle for
just one month – be generous with your gifts of time, talent and
treasure and see how God provides for your needs.
St. Charles School News:
On October 20, our 4K through 2nd graders will be
traveling to the Dubuque Heritage Center to see a
performance of Curious George. They look forward to it!
On October 23, the 5K through 8th graders will be
traveling to the Sinsinawa Auditorium. They will see a group from
the Czech Republic perform diverse music on traditional and
modern instruments.
We would like to say “thank you” to all the volunteer
drivers who help make these trips possible.
St. Charles School is in need of a music teacher one day

October is also the Month of the Rosary. We thank
all of the Rosary Leaders in our parishes for their leadership,
prayers, and ministry of praying the rosary before each of our
Masses. Please pray the rosary with your family. There is so
much to pray for about our country and world.

2014, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the forming of our
Parish; which has been the home for the Catholic Students at
UWP for over 40 years.
Mass will be at 10:30 am, followed by a Potluck
meal in the dining room in the lower level of St. Augustine. We
invite you to bring a dish to pass, such as a casserole, salad,
dessert, etc. We will provide drinks and table service.

Knights of Columbus News:
A roadside cleanup is scheduled for Saturday,
October 25, and volunteers will be needed to split wood at
Badger Camp on Saturday, November 1.
The fall breakfast will be held at St. Mary's in
Bloomington on Sunday, October 26. All are welcome to
attend.
