Sixth Sunday of
Ordinary Time
The Sacrament of Reconciliation:
Fr. John will be available to hear confessions from 3:45-4:15
p.m. every Saturday at the church that has the 4:30 p.m.
Mass. The other times for the sacrament of reconciliation are
as follows:
St. Mary Church, Glen Haven– 7:40-7:50 p.m. on Saturday
evenings;
St. John’s Church, Patch Grove-7:40-7:50 a.m. on Sunday
mornings;
St. Mary Church, Bloomington-7:30 –7:50 a.m. every Thurs.
Baptism:
May God bless our new parents! Please contact Fr. John to
schedule the baptism of your child at your church and to
attend a baptismal preparation session.
Marriage:
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Please call
Fr. John at least six months in advance of the wedding. One
of the parties must be a practicing Catholic.
Anointing of the Sick:
Whenever someone is seriously ill, hospitalized, or is dying,
please contact the Bloomington parish office immediately. If
you or someone you know is sick and would like to be
included in the Mass prayers, please call the parish office.
Vocations:
Please contact Fr. John if you or someone you know would
like to learn more about becoming a priest, brother, sister,
deacon, or lay church minister. Please pray for more
vocations to the priesthood and all religious ministries!!!

Tickets for the KC State Charity Raffle are on sale.
Proceeds from this fundraiser support grants to help families in
Wisconsin who are struck with disasters such as fires, storms, sickness, etc. We have extra tickets available—if you would like some

Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time:
As we gather on this last Sunday
before Lent, we are challenged by Saint Paul
to do everything for the glory of God.
Further, he urges us to work for the common
good rather than our own. What valuable
lessons for us and for our country! Today, perhaps our
prayer can be for such selflessness to be the fruit of our
coming Lenten season.
We Joyfully Welcome:
This week Amanda Hochhausen and Brad Klein from
St. Charles are becoming catechumens and preparing for their
baptisms at the Easter Vigil. At the 10:30 a.m. Mass this
Sunday, they will receive the Sign of the Cross on their
foreheads and we will pray for them as they begin their
journey to enter the Catholic Church.
Before Amanda and Brad receive the Sign of the
Cross, they will be asked two questions:
What do you ask of God’s Church?
Response: Faith
What does faith offer you?
Response: Eternal Life
As we begin the Lenten season, let us ask ourselves if
we are seeking a deeper faith and what do we seek from God’s
Church and our faith.
Lent 2015 Begins on Wednesday, February 18:

A list of Lenten activities is available to pick up at
each church. Please plan to attend as many activities as possible. Also, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is the best way to
allow the message of Lent to become a part of our lives.
Fast and Abstinence Regulations:
1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat
on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.
2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 60 years of age is bound to
fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
3. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, only one full meatless
meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain
strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between
meals is not permitted. When health or ability to work would be
seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
ST. MARY’S FISH FRY:
Everyone is invited to attend St. Mary’s Fish Fry on
Friday, February 27. Plan to gather with your family
and friends to enjoy the delicious baked and fried Cod
Fish Dinner which will be served from 4:45 to 7:30 p.m.
The evening will also include a fabulous raffle held in
conjunction with the Catholic Financial Life Branch #34.

St. Mary’s Church Update:
This week the crew from Service Master was able to
clean the soot from the upper church walls, beams, and ceiling
with the help of a lift. We are very glad to have this work
completed and to have the church completely clean since the
fire.
St. Mary’s 2015 Variety Show:
St. Mary’s 2015Variety Show on March 22 is
only five weeks away! Plan to attend this fun
event and enjoy “Classic TV” performances
from St. Mary’s Parish Players, the White family, River
Ridge Dance team, and many others. Please contact the

the show (singing, skits, comedy, instrumental
performances, etc.)

Even thought it is wintery cold
outside, we are very thankful to everyone

St. Charles School News:
Congratulations to the Riley Infield and Adison
Tasker who received the Sacrament of
Reconciliation on February 4.
Many of our students enjoyed an ice cream party as
their reward for selling magazines. Thank you to anyone
who helped our school by renewing or subscribing to a
magazine. We really appreciate all your help. We are so
fortunate to have the support we do from the community.

St. Mary’s Redecoration Fund:
We are very grateful for the generous
donations for the redecoration of St. Mary’s
Church. We have received $16,995.00 in
contributions plus $5,200.00 in pledges for
the project. With these funds and $15,000 from parish
savings, St. Mary’s Redecoration Fund already has over
one-half of the $70,000 goal to complete the project. Please
contact Fr. John or a parish council for more information about
the redecoration project or to make a donation.

In today’s Gospel reading we see a perfect example of
stewardship. Jesus gives His time to do all that God wishes - healing
the sick and preaching. Yet, Jesus also makes time to be alone in
prayer. It is through prayer, spending time with God, that we find the
strength to do what God wishes us to do. Be sure to find time every
day to be with God.

6th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Celebrate Life:
The traditional practice of “giving something up for
Lent” is a practice of self-denial; our Lord said that to
follow him, we must deny our very selves. It means we say No to
ourselves and Yes to God and others. This reverses the pattern of sin,
which says Yes to ourselves and No to God and others. In our culture,
the most violent No to God and others is abortion. Over three
thousand times every day in our nation, people say No to a little child
so that they may say Yes to their fears or their plans. This Lent, as we
practice self-denial, let’s think of these children. Let’s offer our
sacrifices for them. May all say Yes to God and Yes to the unborn.

BLOOMINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT’S
CHILI SUPPER:
Everyone is invited to attend the Bloomington Fire
Department’s Chili Supper and Bake Sale on Saturday, Feb.
21, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Bloomington Fire Station.
They will be serving Culver’s Chili, Ma’s Bakery Cinnamon
Rolls and beverage. The cost is $8.00 per person. Afterward
take home some tasty treats from the Bake Sale. The proceeds
will go toward an ATV 6-wheeler.
Anyone who would like to donate items for the Bake
Sale may drop their baked goods off at the Bloomington Fire
Station by noon on Saturday, February 21.
