Morgan Margretta Needham, daughter of Tim and Kayla
Needam who was baptized at St. John’s Church.
Solemnity of Mary, Holy Mother of God:
On Thursday, the Church rings in the New Year by
celebrating our most ancient feast of the Blessed
Virgin Mary, honoring her with one of her most
beautiful titles, Holy Mother of God. On this day so
filled with the hope of new beginnings and good
resolutions, Mary also stands before us as Queen of
Peace, the woman of contemplative prayer who reflects in her
heart on God’s ever-renewed presence in the world. She is likewise First among the disciples, the woman of gospel action, who
responds to God’s word with obedient faith and selfless charity.
As we begin this New year, she points to her Son and says to us
what she told the servants at Cana’s wedding feast, “Do whatever
he tells you.”
Year End Giving:
December 28, 2014
Many people enjoy giving at Christmas and year’s
end to help their favorite Catholic institutions and
also to positively impact their federal and state
income taxes. As we celebrate the joy of the Christmas season
and prepare for 2015, please know that your financial support is
deeply appreciated and needed for the operation of our parishes
and Catholic schools. God bless!
The Feast of the Holy Family
of Jesus, Mary and Joseph:
Our Christmas celebration
continues today with this celebration
of the feast of the Holy Family. The
focus is on God’s promises kept.
Abraham and Sarah do indeed bring forth a son, and
Simeon and Anna live to see the Messiah. As we gather
today at God’s invitation, perhaps we can recall what
promises God has kept for us, and then give God our
thanks and praise.
Christmas Thank You’s:
I would like to thank Fr. Bill Seipp for helping
with our Christmas Masses. His assistance is
deeply appreciated and we are blessed with his
service to our parishes.
Thank you to everyone who has very generously
supported our parishes throughout the year and at
Christmastime. May God’s love and blessings be
with you and your family in 2015!
REMEMBRANCE:
As we say farewell to 2014, it is a good time to
remember the people who were baptized, married and
who died this past year from our parishes.

ST. MARY’S SCHOOL NEWS:
Our vision: Faith, Family and Academic Excellence.
We hope that the new year brings everyone in our
parish happiness and joy from the love of Christ.
Our volunteer of the year is Gwen Herbers. Each year
we recognize one of the many volunteers who help us
in the school. Gwen serves on the parish and school finance
commission, administers the fluoride treatment to our children,
helps sell SCRIP at Economy Feed mill, is a stage hand and
prompter for our plays, and she has served on the Education
Commission. Like all of our volunteers, she shares her gifts to
promote the "Good News."
St. Mary’s 5th and 6th grade students sang Advent
hymns and the Mass acclamations accompanied by Music
teacher, Laura Tolle at Orchard Manor and the Lancaster Care
Center on Dec. 17. After Mass the students greeted the
residents and gave them handmade Christmas ornaments.
We are still actively looking for a full time Language
Arts teacher to start work in January. The job is posted on
WECAN and we have it posted at university sites in our area.
SCRIP:
Winter is here and SCRIP gift cards are a great way to
do your shopping. There are a wide variety of SCRIP gift cards from
local and national businesses. The SCRIP program is online. Please
contact St. Mary’s School if you would like information about SCRIP
or to purchase SCRIP.
St. John’s CCW is seeking individuals to serve as
CCW officers. Please call Jean Blake for more
information.

matches that and also donates a dollar. If you have any

Reflection:
“…as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must
forgive.” - Colossians 3:13
Forgiveness – one of the hardest things for people to
do. It’s amazing how long we can hold a grudge or be angry
with someone. As we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family,
take this opportunity to give the gift of forgiveness to someone
- maybe someone in your family, maybe a friend, maybe a
co-worker or neighbor or, maybe yourself. Pick up the phone
or text someone right now.
