TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
OCTOBER 12, 2014
The Lord invites us to a banquet (3),
one of the favorite images of messianic times (1).
This banquet is spread before us (Ps)
and can fully satisfy our needs (2),
yet how often have we refused the Lord’s
invitation to share in the riches prepared for us (3)?
Thought for the Day
COME TO THE FEAST
“On this mountain, the Lord of hosts/will provide for all people/a feast of
rich food and choice wines” (Isaiah 25:6). That’s what Isaiah tells us
today. God is putting together a huge party for “all people” to “wipe away/
the tears from every face” (Isaiah 25:8).
And what does Jesus tell us? The reign of God, he says, “may be likened
to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son” (Matthew 22:2). When the
guests didn’t come, the king had his servants go out “into the main roads
and invite to the feast whomever you find” (Matthew 22:9). We are called
to deliver that invitation.
One of the themes woven into today’s liturgy is that of divine generosity.
Asleep to reality, people often think they have “earned” what they have. In
our better moments, though, we know that all our gifts—even the spiritual
gifts—come through God’s generosity. Our vocation is to invite people, to
remind them the tickets aren’t for sale. We can only show up and say
thank you.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor Assistance: We wish to thank all of the
parishioners who generously give to our SVdP Conference. Your
donations make it possible for us to help many needy families
during these difficult economic times. In September, we helped a
total of fifty-nine families with assistance including $1,957 in rent,
$300 in twinning to other SVdP conferences, $755 in car repairs,
$50 in gas cards, $485 in Safeway gift cards, $25 in bus passes and
supplied forty bags of groceries from our pantry.
Food for our Pantry: Please help us stock our SVdP pantry for
the coming weeks. We need pasta, pasta sauce, soup, meals-in-acan, canned vegetables, canned meat, pinto beans, and canned fruit.
Donations should be placed in the baskets at the entrances to the
Church. We can also use paper grocery bags (preferably doubled).
Please no fresh produce or partially used food. Thank you!
Volunteer to Cook for the Rotating Shelter: Please consider
volunteering to help St. Vincent de Paul feed sixteen homeless men
as part of the Rotating Shelter Program on Sunday, November 2,
2014. Each volunteer will prepare one side, entrée, or dessert.
Contact John O’Hallaren, [email protected] or 541508-8501 to sign-up.
MINISTRY TO THE SICK & HOMEBOUND
Please consider joining Eucharistic Ministers to take Holy
Communion to residents of Idylwood Care Home, ManorCare and
Sunnyvale Health Center, on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
mornings respectively. This is a very rewarding endeavor. If
interested, please leave a message for Otto & Debbie Sterba at
650-968-6708.

RESURRECTION SCHOOL NEWS
Dear Resurrection Families,
Do you, or someone you know, have a handmade business? Do
you have a special talent when it comes to making gifts for family
and friends? Or do you love whipping up delicious baked treats that
people just can't get enough of? If so, here is a perfect opportunity to share
it with the Resurrection Community, while helping to raise money for our
school.
The school is planning a Holiday Boutique to be held in the Farana Center
Hall on Friday, December 5, from 12-6:30 pm and Saturday, December 6,
from 9 am-6.30 pm. We are looking to showcase a variety of vendors,
providing a charming holiday shopping experience for the school and
parish community alike.
All booth fees and 20% of all sales generated from this boutique will
be donated to Resurrection School.
For those interested in becoming vendors at this event, the FAQs and
registration forms are available in the parish office. If you have any further
questions, please contact Megan Petty at [email protected] or
Shilpa Bhat at [email protected]
We look forward to showcasing your creative talents!
