WORKSHOPS “CURRET TREDS I BIOMEDICIE” 2014 CAMPUS ATOIO MACHADO BAEZA, SPAI CARDIOVASCULAR EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX I HEALTH AD DISEASE Baeza, Spain • 6th-8th October 2014 Organized by: Harry C. Dietz Institute of Genetic Medicine and HHMI, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Baltimore, USA. adia Mercader Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (CNIC). Madrid, Spain. Paul R. Riley Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, University of Oxford. Oxford, UK. Sponsors: SCOPE Far from being a rigid and static material, cardiovascular extracellular matrix (ECM) is a highly dynamic structure that responds to injury and disease through specific molecular mechanisms. This response can activate beneficial repair mechanisms but can also lead to myocardial and vascular malfunction. This workshop will provide insight into the mechanisms integral to ECM homeostasis—synthesis, deposition and remodeling—that are fundamental to understanding the pathological basis of several cardiovascular diseases. The workshop will also present state-of the art knowledge on the mechanisms of fibrosis initiation, propagation and regression that will form the basis for the future development of new therapeutic strategies, including new anti-fibrotic drugs, the ECM-based biomaterials, and gene therapy interventions to revert fibrosis. FORMAT OF THE WORKSHOP The workshop will bring together 17 speakers and a maximum of 33-35 participants, to form a group of around 50 people. The scientific programme will start in the morning of Monday, October 6th, and will end around noon on Wednesday, October 8th. Ample time for informal discussion will be reserved. Participants will be invited to present a poster. VEUE OF THE WORKSHOP The workshop will be held in Baeza, at the “Campus Antonio Machado”, a XVII century building turned into a Conference Centre of the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA). This Seat includes a recently restored residence, where participants will be accommodated. Baeza is a World Historic Heritage town, renowned for its Renaissance and Gothic buildings.
