The C74x/X74x fusers do not have this screw so the guide can be opened for easy access into the fuser. To open the guide, simply move the release lever and unlock the guide pin C73x/X73x Screw C74x/X74x No Screw These new fusers are compatible with the C73x and X73x printers. In time, only the new fusers will be available as a replacement part for the C73x/X73x. If this pin is not in its “Locked” position, the Fuser will not install. For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – Cartridge Contacts To eliminate problems with errors associated with the cartridge contacts, the old copper colored contacts in the C73x/X73x machine and Toner Cartridges are replaced with plated silver ones. In addition, the printer contacts can now be ordered as replaceable FRUs. C74x/X74x Contacts C73x/X73x Contacts C74x/X74x Contacts C73x/X73x Contacts For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – MPF Pick Assembly The MPF Pick arm is redesigned on the C74x/X74x to be more durable and to allow for easy removal. Now, to remove the MPF Pick Arm, squeeze the green release lever and slide it off the shaft. MFP Pick Arm Green Release Lever Squeeze the Green release lever MPF Pick Arm removed Continued on next page For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – MPF Pick Assembly con’t For comparison, here is the C73x/X73x MFP Pick Arm compared to the C74x/X74x. C73x/X73x MFP Pick Arm C74x/X74x MFP Pick Arm For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – MPF Empty Sensor To improve the MPF, a paper empty sensor now detects when the MPF is empty. An actuator inside the opening of the tray springs upward when the tray is empty. MFP Empty Sensor MFP Empty Sensor Actuator For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – Duplex Edge Guide A slight change is made to the Duplex Edge Guide in the C74x/X74x. C73x/X73x Duplex Edge Guide C74x/X74x Duplex Edge Guide For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – Scanner Lamp Although the scanner looks identical to the X73x, the lamp light source uses an LED instead of a Xenon lamp in the X74x models. The procedure for servicing the scanner is the same if the CCD should need replacement. For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – C74x Power Consumption The C74x has improvements for reduced power consumption. The power consumption levels listed in the table below represent time-averaged measurements. Instantaneous power draws may be substantially higher than the average. Values are subject to change. See www.lexmark.com for current values. Power Consumption by Mode: Mode Description Power consumption (Watts) Printing The product is generating hard-copy output from electronic inputs. Simplex = 535 W Duplex = 420 W Copy The product is generating hard-copy output from hard-copy original documents. 600 W ADF Scan The product is scanning hard-copy documents. 85 W Ready The product is waiting for a print job. 48 W Sleep Mode The product is in a high-level energy-saving mode. C746 = 6.8 W C748 = 7.3 W Hibernate The product is in a low-level energy-saving mode. 0.55 W Off The product is plugged into a wall outlet, but the power switch is turned off 0.0 W Note: Some modes do not apply to every model. The power consumption levels listed in the table represent timeaveraged measurements. Instantaneous power draws may be substantially higher than the average. Values are subject to change. See www.lexmark.com for current values. For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – X74x Power Consumption The X74x has improvements for reduced power consumption. 560 W Simplex 435 W Duplex Copy The product is generating hard-copy output from hard-copy original documents. 600 W ADF Scan The product is scanning hard-copy documents. 85 W Ready The product is waiting for a print job. 55 W Sleep Mode The product is in a high-level energy-saving mode. 11.0 W Hibernate The product is in a low-level energy-saving mode. 0.5 W Off The product is plugged into a wall outlet, but the power switch is turned off 0.0 W Note: Some modes do not apply to every model. The power consumption levels listed in the table represent timeaveraged measurements. Instantaneous power draws may be substantially higher than the average. Values are subject to change. See www.lexmark.com for current values. For Training Use Only Hardware Changes – Power Consumption con’t Sleep Mode The printers are designed with an energy-saving mode called Sleep Mode. Sleep Mode saves energy by lowering power consumption during extended periods of inactivity and automatically engages after a specified period of time. Factory default Sleep Mode Timeout = 30 minutes By using the configuration menus, the Sleep Mode Timeout can be modified between 1 minute and 240 minutes. • Setting the Sleep Mode Timeout to a low value reduces energy consumption, but may increase the response time of the product. • Setting the Sleep Mode Timeout to a high value maintains a fast response, but uses more energy. Hibernate Mode Hibernate is an ultra-low power operating mode. When operating in Hibernate mode, the printer is essentially off, and all other systems and devices are powered down safely. The printer will not respond to faxes, print jobs or other cues that would normally “wake” the printer when in sleep mode. By default, Hibernate Mode is not enabled. You can enable through the embedded web server or operator panel menus: Settings > General Settings > Sleep Button Settings For Training Use Only Code Changes The C74x/X74x uses a different firmware code than it’s predecessor, the C73x/X73x. The menus are slightly different as well as some error codes. Lexmark is transitioning all laser printers to a standardized error code scheme to make error reporting more consistent throughout all products. If you have previous experience on the C73x/X73x, keep in mind that the error codes may not mean the same thing on the C74x/X74x. In addition, if you need to update code on a 73x or 74x printer, make sure you use the correct code as the 73x code is not compatible with the 74x and vice versa. For Training Use Only
