WISCONSIN JUVENILE DETENTION ASSOCIATION Our goal in the Wisconsin Juvenile Detention Association (WJDA) is to provide national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to juvenile delinquency and victimization. WJDA accomplishes this by supporting states and local communities in their efforts to develop and implement effective and coordinated prevention and intervention programs and to improve the juvenile justice system. Also to protect the public safety, hold offenders accountable and provide treatment and rehabilitative services tailored to the needs of each individual juvenile. These programs are also highly successful in warding off future offenses. PO BOX 20616 GREENFIELD, WI 53220 There are approximately 70 million people under the age of 18 in the United States, an increase in the millions from the 90’s. With juveniles comprising such a significant portion of the nation’s population, juvenile crime and victimization issues require considerable resources and attention from our justice, educational, and other social support systems. Overall, juvenile crime and victimization rates have decreased recently. Even school related crimes, which lately have received so much media attention, were substantially lower in numbers in recent years. WISCONSIN JUVENILE DETENTION ASSOCIATION 19TH ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE “A Collaborated Approach in the Juvenile Justice System.” In 2014, the WJDA will host its 19th annual conference. Our purpose in planning this conference is to provide professional development and education in the form of additional training, seminars and workshops to those individuals who work directly with juveniles detained for suspected criminal activities. The Wisconsin Juvenile Detention Association was established for the following purposes: *To identify, strengthen and promote sound juvenile detention center practices. *To review and evaluate proposed and existing standards throughout the Juvenile Justice System. *To develop personnel standards which enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of those involved in the Juvenile Justice System.
