Better that only a few Catholics should be left, staunch and sincere in their religion, than that they should, remaining many, desire as it were, to be in collusion with the Church’s enemies and in conformity with the open foes of our faith. When we have a second collection, people tend to split their usual offering between the two collections, which is understandable given the pressure of our economic times. However we rely on the first collection to keep the parish and school going and pay the bills. We ask that if there are two collections you include the usual amount you give in the first collection and do the best you can with the second if you are able to. MIZZI-GILI 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Fratelli e Sorelli nel Signore (My Brothers and Sisters in the Lord) Anytime my family has Sunday dinner or any special event, we make sure that there is a “good” bottle of wine for the occasion. It becomes a time for us to be together no matter what, and spend hours at the table enjoying one another’s company. We attempt to provide the best for whoever is coming over to visit. This Sunday’s readings are reminding us that the Lord “will provide for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines” as Isaiah tells us in the first reading. Christ in Matthew’s Gospel is telling us that “heaven is likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.” This must say to us that is it the greatest of all feasts! What does this mean for you and for me? If our souls are not prepared, that is cleansed of all sins, we will be like the man in the gospel who did not have a wedding garment- he was unprepared to be with the King of kings and the Lord of lords! The man who did not have a wedding garment represents those of us who have turned away from but think that they can enter heaven no matter what. That is not true. Jesus once again is reminding us “many are invited, but few are chosen.” In order for us to be among the few, we must know how to live “in every circumstance and in all things humbly” as St. Paul says in his letter to the Philippians. May you and I pray- ‘I can do all things in Him who strengthens me’ so that we may live the house of the Lord all the days of my life. May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of all hearts so that we may know what is the hope that belongs to our call. God bless you and your families! Buona Domenica! Good Sunday!
