FITNESS CHALLENGE - OCTOBER 2014-MAY 2015

Take your training to the next level by competing in the
fitness challenge being held at the John H. Chafee Fitness
Center. The fitness challenge occurs monthly with the first
set of challenges will be held October 20-24.
Result are based over the entire week and through the year.
Awards will be given to the overall top male and female
participants during each week and to the overall winner
throughout the challenge.
Results for the yearly Fitness Challenge are based on
participation and event totals.

All workshops are held at the Fleet and Family Support Center, building 1260 (next to the Navy
Federal Credit Union), unless otherwise noted. Registration is required and may be made by calling
(401) 841-2283. Active duty personnel, retirees, family members, reservists and DoD employees are
welcome. All programs require a level of scheduling, staffing and purchasing of course material, so
please register early.

6 -10 – Transition Goals, Plans, Success (GPS), 0730-1700
Program is designed to assist service members leaving the
military to prepare for transition to civilian life. This is an
interactive workshop designed to help you with evaluating the
salary & compensation package and cost of living, resume
writing, interviewing skills, and VA Benefits. Register with your
Command Career Counselor. The workshop is held at the MWR
Recreation Center Conference Room in Building 656.
calculations of net worth, monthly income, monthly savings and
living expenses, indebtedness and debt-to-income ratio; we also
look at options to increase income, decrease expenses and
decrease indebtedness. Please bring your personal laptop, with
Excel software, so you can work on your spending plan.

28 – Sexual Assault Prevention & Response (SAPR) Refresher
Training, 0800-1630
This training is for SAPR victim advocates that need refresher
training to remain active in the SAPR program. Please call the
NAVSTA Newport Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC),
Allison Agnello, at (401) 841-4426 to register.

We all need some stress in our lives to help us flourish and
grow. Finding the right balance between too much and too little
stress is essential. Learn techniques to effectively navigate
stress, relax, and stay balanced.

14th – Smooth Move Workshop, 0930-1100
Ease the stress and frustration associated with the relocation of
military families by attending this workshop.
15th – Homebuyers’ Workshop, 1800-2000
Purchasing a home is a complex task. Come to the Fleet and
Family Support Center and learn about your options and how to
decipher real estate lingo. You will meet with a representative
from the Navy Federal Credit Union to hear first-hand about
qualifications for mortgages and other financial options. Homebuying information for all areas of the United States is available
at this workshop.

20 -24 – Sexual Assault Prevention & Response (SAPR) Victim
Advocate Training, 0830-1600
Victim advocates provide information, support, guidance and
reporting options for victims of sexual assault. This training
covers the roles and responsibilities of victim advocates who
will be placed on the installation-wide watch bill on a rotating
basis. Victim advocates are designated by their command and
screened by the Naval Station Newport Sexual Assault
Response Coordinator. Please call the NAVSTA Newport Sexual
Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), Allison Agnello, at (401)

27 – Develop Your Spending Plan, 1400-1530
Class includes - setting goals that are SMART (Specific,
Measurable, Action-Oriented, Realistic, and Timely); learn to
distinguish between net, gross, and disposable income; learn
how to complete a financial planning worksheet consisting of

Designed to help service members and their families plan for
increased holiday expenses and develop strategies to avoid
overspending and accumulating excessive debt. The program
is appropriate for all individuals, even those who do not
celebrate the holidays can benefit from this class. The money
management tips offered in this class apply year-round as well
as special occasions when additional spending occurs.

A resume is one of your most important tools when looking for a
job. Learn how to prepare an effective resume that will get you
an interview. This workshop will cover what to include on your
resume, which format to use, and other resume writing tips.
