We claim that we are very proud of our Catholic Tradition. Then the question is why we do not live up to that expectation? If we claim
that our faith tradition is better than all other ones, then why we are reluctant to practice it sincerely? Why our lives are not better than others? Is it
the credibility of our faith or our lack of honesty that is at test here?
We claim that our faith and actions have eternal consequences. But our lives do not reflect that conviction. When we frequently repeat
the prayer which our Lord taught us, “Our Father …” where we ask God to act according to the pattern of our conduct, “ forgive us .. as we forgive”, it appears that we do not get it! Or maybe we do not mean it because we will not forgive our dear and near ones in our lives. Still we keep
on repeating this prayer. The implication is that we expect certain benefits from God without fulfilling the conditions we set on ourselves to justify
those requests. Is this hypocrisy or poor taste? When one says this prayer over and over again, but will not forgive one’s husband or wife for
whatever reasons one is unhappy with, what do we reveal about our faith and life and what model do we present to our children and friends to
follow? And we are Catholics without any doubt! When a married person, after many years of life together, develops alienating sentiments and
soon reaches out to pleasing strangers and sets to destroy the marriage, deliberately avoids mediation or opportunities for reconciliation but persists in the gratification rout, such a person is freezing the conscience under the influence of concupiscence. One wonders, how can a true Catholic do this? Faith is not shaping our lives. Such lapses always weaken our faith leading to the brow of abandoning it and eventually will end up in
despair. Many of our marriages are suffering these days due to this problem. When a marriage is shaky, and one partner is reaching out to a distant affair, the children are silent victims. In the same way, when one partner is seeking satisfaction in pornography or such mundane channels,
the marriage is suffering. Emotional distancing will result in volitional alienation. Instead of following our Catholic tradition of prayerful and faithful
family, we are lost in the media world of fantasy and fake relationships. Worldly values will eventually displace our faith values. We think we are
Catholics but we act and live like having no faith at all. If we do not show through our lives that Catholic tradition is valuable, then how can we
transfer those traditions to our children? There is a desperate need to make our lives congruent with our faith and our traditions. Active participation in retreats and revivals will facilitate our faith renewals. Whenever we observe a wide separation between our lives and our tradition, the
word of God will inspire us to repent and renew our lives, for the reign of God is at hand.

THE CELEBRATION OF INFANT BAPTISM: Baptism is an important celebration
in the community. It requires a time for parents (and sponsors, if available) to be
prepared. This can even be done before a child is born. Baptismal preparation is

ORDER OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION: Children over age six and all adults who
believe the Spirit of God is moving them to Baptism, Confirmation and the reception
of the Eucharist participate in a process that moves through the year and culminates at the Easter Vigil each year. Contact the church office for details of this
process and to enroll in the precatechumenate or candidate programs.

Faith Formation Notes
There will be a living Rosary this week- end with Faith Formation students,(English)
after the 9:00 am Mass and on Saturday the Spanish class will have their living rosary at 3:30 pm
November 1st the Knights are hosting a All Saints Day Party for the children. NO
SCARRY OR UGLY COSTUMES, ONLY SAINTS OR HOLY PEOPLE & ANGELS. If each
of the children could bring a bag of candy it would be greatly appreciated.
Ladies Group will meet on Oct. 14th at 5:30 pm at the Senior Center. All are welcome

Reconciliation and Healing
Forli, Italy was once part of the Papal States and governed by the Pope. A man named Peregrine, born around 1265,
grew up there and was active in an anti-papal, opposition party. The prior general of the Servants of Mary, Philip Benizi (now
canonized. Was sent to preach reconciliation in Forli. Peregrine obstructed him, heckled him. His political fervor even brought
him to strike Philip-an action that became a turning point.
Peregrine changed. His dynamic energies began to be channeled in another direction. Philip’s preaching had provoked attraction as well as reaction. Peregrine himself eventually entered the Servants of Mary at about the age of thirty ,pronouncing his vows in the Servite priory in Siena ,Italy. Peregrine’s transformed zeal took him back to Forli where he was
to live out his life. His fervor that had been so intense politically was no less so spiritually. He became a special advocate of
those who were ,sick poor, and on the edge of society. He assumed special penances, one of them-standing whenever it was
not necessary to sit-led to varicose veins.
His conditioned worsened, becoming an open, running sore, which was diagnosed as Cancer. The wound became so
extreme, odorous and painful as to require amputation. This was another turning point for Peregrine. He was sixty. The one
who had seen ugliness and suffering and had served and supported others, and the goodness of God he had administered so
long. The night before the surgery, in the priory chapel room, he prayed before the image of the Crucified. In the prayer filled
sleep that followed, he envisioned his crucified Lord descending from the cross and touching his cancerous leg. Upon awakening, he discovered his wound was healed. The reputation of this beloved holy man grew as the years passed. There is a shrine
in Chicago (National Shrine of St. Peregrine Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica). He is the patron saint of Cancer.

TREASURES AND TRADITIONS
The confessional is a familiar setting in literature and drama. Everyone from Doestoevsky and Shakespeare down the line to Seinfeld has used the sacrament to tragic or comic effect or to reveal aspects of character otherwise hidden. All of this theater, from world classics to slapstick, has had a numbing effect on our
own expectations, and has skewed how the culture looks at us and our struggle with sin and forgiveness,
hope and healing.
Yet the artists are on to something. The reconciliation chapel is a place where hearts
are laid bare, where honesty is the watchword, and people confess their deepest needs. It is also a place of
rebirth, or at least realignment. It is, like the baptismal font, a place where something dies, and where something else is born. Today, although literature has barely caught up, the place is usually not the dark and
gloomy cabinet of old; rather it is a chapel that speaks of peace, serenity, and the comfort of a welcome
home. People in one parish were astonished recently to see their children skipping with delight as they left
the place of their first confession. We have to wait a bit for world literature to catch up with this reality, but at
least we can experience the joy of penance, the thrill of a new beginning, the assurance of God’s love.—Rev.

A little information on this group. It is comprised of Catholic women
ages 17 & up who work together to support the Church, the community, each other and the Knights of Columbus one does not have to be married or related to a Knight to join the Auxilary. The Columbiettes are woman
of all ages from 18 and up. We would really like to get it started—all are welcome—This is in no way going to
take away from any of the other groups Spanish or English. In fact it would be nice to all work together in

Afirmamos que estamos muy orgullosos de nuestra tradición católica. Entonces la pregunta es ¿por qué no vivimos de esa expectativa? Si afirmamos que nuestra tradición de fe es mejor que todos los demás, entonces ¿por qué nos resistimos a practicar con sinceridad? ¿Por qué nuestras vidas no son mejores que otros? ¿Es la credibilidad de nuestra fe o nuestra falta de honestidad que está
en prueba aquí? Afirmamos que nuestra fe y las acciones tienen consecuencias eternas. Pero nuestras vidas no reflejan esa convicción. Cuando repetimos con frecuencia la oración que nuestro Señor nos enseñó: "Padre nuestro ..." donde le pedimos a Dios para
que actúe de acuerdo con el patrón de nuestra conducta, "perdónanos como nosotros perdonamos a ..", parece que no lo entiendo! O
tal vez no queremos decir que porque no vamos a perdonar a nuestros seres queridos y cercanos en nuestras vidas. Todavía seguimos repitiendo esta oración. La implicación es que esperamos que ciertos beneficios de Dios sin cumplir las condiciones que nos
fijamos en nosotros mismos para justificar esas peticiones. ¿Este es hipocresía o de mal gusto? Cuando uno dice esta oración una y otra vez, pero no
perdonar al marido o la esposa por cualquier razón uno es infeliz con, ¿qué es lo que revelamos acerca de nuestra fe y de la vida y qué modelo es lo
que presentamos a nuestros hijos y amigos para seguir? Y nosotros somos católicos, sin duda alguna! Cuando una persona casada, después de muchos años de vida en común, desarrolla sentimientos alienantes yy pronto llega a extraños agradable y establece para destruir el matrimonio, deliberadamente evita la mediación o las oportunidades para la reconciliación, pero persiste en la goleada gratificación, tal persona está congelando la conciencia bajo la influencia de la concupiscencia. Uno se pregunta, ¿cómo puede hacer un verdadero católico esto? La fe no está dando forma a nuestras vidas. Tales lapsos siempre debilitan nuestra fe que lleva a la cima de su abandono y, finalmente, va a terminar en la desesperación. Muchos de
nuestros matrimonios están sufriendo en estos días debido a este problema. Cuando un matrimonio se tambalea, y una pareja está tratando de llegar
a un asunto lejano, los niños son las víctimas silenciosas. De la misma manera, cuando una pareja está buscando la satisfacción en la pornografía o

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
La Virgen María tiene siglos de estar apareciéndose a los cristianos. Aún antes de que fuese asunta al
cielo, ella ya se le había aparecido al apóstol Santiago en Zaragoza, España. Según una antigua leyenda,
Santiago llegó a tierra española en el año 40 para predicar el Evangelio. Tuvo poco éxito y desanimado pensaba sacudirse de los pies el polvo de aquella tierra y buscar convertir otras gentes. Mientras estaba en oración, María, la madre de Jesús, se le apareció con palabras de consuelo, ánimo y un pequeño obsequio. Le
dio una imagen de ella misma sobre un pilar y con el Niño Jesús en brazos.
En esa tierra ella pidió la construcción de un templo donde ella misma sería altar para la gloria de Dios.
Santiago mismo construyó la primera iglesia donde hoy se encuentra una gran basílica en honor de Nuestra
Señora del Pilar. En el siglo XVIII, el Papa Clemente XII declaró el 12 de octubre como su fiesta en memoria
de la llegada de los europeos al continente americano. De María vienen los principios del Día de la Raza.

Reconciliación y Sanación
Forli, Italia fue una vez parte de los Estados Pontificios y gobernada por el Papa. Un hombre llamado Peregrino, nacido alrededor de
1265, se crió allí y fue activo en un anti-papal, partido de la oposición. El prior general de los Siervos de María, Felipe Benicio (ahora
canonizado. Fue enviado a predicar el reconcilliation en Forli. Peregrine le obstruido, lo interrumpieron. Su fervor político incluso lo
llevó a la huelga Philip-una acción que se convirtió en un punto de inflexión.Peregrine cambió. Sus energías dinámicas comenzaron

sesenta. El que había visto la fealdad y el sufrimiento y había servido y apoyado otros, y la bondad de Dios que habían administrado
tanto tiempo. La noche antes de la cirugía, en la sala de la capilla del priorato, rezó ante la imagen del Crucificado. En el sueño lleno
de oración que siguió, él previo a su Señor crucificado que desciende de la cruz y de tocar su pierna cancerosa. Al despertar, descubrió su supuesto fue sanada. La reputación de este hombre santo amado creció a medida que pasaban los años. Hay un santuario
en Chicago (Santuario Nacional de San Peregrino Nuestra Señora de los Dolores Basílica). Él es el santo patrón de cáncer.
