André Ramos This weekend, in the first reading, the Scriptures said, "Woe to the complacent!" Some might ask still, woe to whom? Or who are described as complacent? I believe they are those pleased with the bare minimum of the requirements of their faith and their moral conduct. They like reading and living God's word if it demands not much but when it challenges them to do much more, they disappear from the scene. They hide away--behind the cloak of busyness, or youthfulness or age, illness or weakness or other often justifiable excuses--when God's will asks them to walk the so-called Extra Mile. And yet, this woe word is not an anathema but a clarion call, a further challenge, an invitation to greater conversion. The Ministry Fair last weekend was part of this invitation. Sure, some parishioners are used to merely attending Mass and participating in pious devotions. But when they signed up for greater involvement in our parish, last week or even before, they were making the right response. Many thanks to Judi Putnam and the leaders, coordinators and other volunteers who manned the tables on behalf of their ministries and organizations during this year's fair. IHM RECYCLES!
