After the first General meeting, the trip captain can take signups over the phone or at any other time or place, i.e. TGIFs. If you are not able to attend a General meeting, another Altair member (not the trip captain) can sign up for you. No one is considered signed up unless and until payment is received. Guests cannot sign up for an event for the first 30 days — Altair members have priority, unless the trip captain has chosen to allow guests to sign up earlier. Paying for Events: Checks should be payable to Altair, not the trip captain. Altair does not accept cash. Payments can be made by check, Visa or MasterCard. (No American Express or debit cards, no 2-party or post-dated checks). Trip captains: Please don’t hold checks-turn them in immediately! BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS & UPDATES September 17, 2014 Board Meeting The annual Pray for Powder event was approved by the Board and will occur after all at the regularly scheduled November meeting. Lynn Bruno, Ros Goodman-See and Tom Arnold will coordinate the activities which, at a minimum, will include food, fun, raffles, vendors, and a Food for Lane County drive. The Board approved the Hickory Lane Ski trip scheduled for March 5 – 8 presented by Laurie and Keith Steinbruck. Sign-ups will begin at the October General meeting. A traditional Thanksgiving Dinner to take place at Lynn and Tom Bruno’s home was presented by Lynn Bruno and approved by the Board. Sign-ups begin at the October General meeting. Ros Goodman-See received Board endorsement to query members at the next general meeting to determine the level of interest in the Eugene concert choir’s 40 th Anniversary Holiday Extravaganza concert on December 7. Bob Thomas initiated discussion with the Board about incentives for trip captains. Financial incentives may motivate more members to plan and lead trips and it would also acknowledge the many hours trip captains devote to their activities. The Board as well as members would like to the number of trips activities to increase. Incentives may help toward this goal. Budget discussion including details about revenue and expenses generated ideas about sharing more specific budget information with members and subsequently seeking members’ direct input about the club’s future plans. Are you interested in being “THE” Social Director? We need you! If you are interested, please contact President Erich Kaufmann. Submitted by Secretary Diane O’Keefe WAIVERS Please remember that all members and guests MUST sign the Altair Day Trip/Event Sign-up and Waiver for any Altair activities/events/trips. 2014 GUIDELINES FOR SHARING CARPOOLING EXPENSES In order to ensure that carpool drivers do not experience undue hardship, Altair recommends that passengers pay at a rate of $.10 per mile. Example: if carpool mileage is 100 miles round trip, then each passenger would contribute $10. This is intended to cover not only the driver’s fuel cost, but also the incremental cost of tires, maintenance, post-trip cleaning of the vehicle, etc. The amount per mile is recommendation only. The driver ultimately decides the contribution amount, but it should be communicated beforehand. ALTAIR MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORIES & NEWSLETTERS The membership directories/rosters will be sent out to members via the Altair Yahoo email site on a monthly basis which will include all new members added each month at the General Meetings. Limited copies of the directories will be available for purchase for $1.00 each at the General Meetings, along with limited copies of the newsletter for purchase for $2.00 each. Copies of the directories and newsletters for purchase are intended for members who do not have access to a computer. Limited quantities are printed for members who cannot view or access them on-line.
