UPCOMING CHANGES IN FEES FOR MEMBERSHIP AND CHAPTER EVENTS

UPCOMING CHANGES IN FEES FOR MEMBERSHIP AND CHAPTER EVENTS
As previously announced in June, on December 1, 2014, all local Chapter finances will be consolidated
under HRPA to protect the Association’s non-profit status. As part of this consolidation, annual local
Chapter dues and Association dues will be combined into a single fee that will be approximately equal to
what provincial dues and chapter dues cost in the past. This “unified dues” will be used in a few novel
ways for the benefit of all members.
1) Effective December 1, 2014, members will be entitled to attend regularly scheduled Chapter
events at no charge after discount codes are applied. We are doing this in response to members’
requests to make continuing professional development more affordable;
2) As a member you will affiliate with just one chapter (your “home” Chapter), where you are
registered to vote in Chapter elections (all members are now eligible to vote in Chapter
elections), but…
3) You will be welcome to attend events held by any HRPA Chapter as if it were your home Chapter.
In other words, if a chapter event is free, it is free for all HRPA members, regardless of Chapter, so
there’s no need to pay extra dues to belong to more than one Chapter.
4) To ensure this benefit is not abused, if you register for a free Chapter event and then fail to attend
without providing adequate notice you will be invoiced for the cost of the event prior to
application of discount codes. This will help the Chapter manage the cost for venue and catering
more efficiently.
CHARGEABLE EVENTS
Many Chapters will continue to offer chargeable events in addition to free events. Typically, these
chargeable events will include, but will not be limited to, extended length learning sessions (seminars,
conferences, CKE exam prep workshops, etc.). Whatever the fee, all HRPA members will be treated the
same, regardless of home Chapter.
WHEN DO THESE CHANGES TAKE EFFECT
The changes will be applicable to all events held on or after December 1, 2014.
The new unified membership dues fees will apply for all new members as of December 1, 2014, and for all
current members when they renew for the 2015-2016 membership year which begins June 1, 2015.
