Petrol, diesel
prices hiked
NEW DELHI: Petrol
price was today hiked by
82 paisa per litre and
diesel by 61 paisa,
reversing the declining
trend of last six months.
Petrol and diesel price
hike, which is effective
from midnight tonight, is
the first increase since
August 2014 and follows
firming of oil prices in
the international market.
A litre of petrol in Delhi
will cost R 57.31 from
tomorrow as against R
56.49 currently while
diesel will cost R 46.62
per litre as against R
46.01 at present, oil companies announced here
today. Prices of petrol
and diesel were last
revised downwards on

Sunday released 172
Indian fishermen as a
goodwill gesture, two
days after the Prime
Ministers of the two
countries decided to
resume high-level contacts. "We got the release
orders today and we have
released the prisoners
who will travel to Wagah
via train," Muhammad
Sehto, the superintendent
at Malir Jail, said.
The fishermen had been
held at the Malir and
Landhi District Jail in
Karachi for allegedly violating territorial waters in
the Arabian Sea.

15 militants killed
in encounter
PESHAWAR: At least
15 militants were killed
in an encounter with
Pakistan security forces
in Kurram tribal region
from across the border in
Afghanistan early today.
Militants attacked a
check-post in Kurram
Agency which was befittingly retaliated by the
security forces, official
sources said. One soldier
was also injured in the
attack. While 15 militants
were killed, the remaining fled back to
Afghanistan. Although
Pakistan military, a couple of years ago, had
declared the region militant-free, reports of sectarian attacks still

today. Born on 9th
August 1939 in a

Violating the ceasefire,
Pakistani Rangers today
opened fire at Tawi area in
R S Pura sector of Jammu
district. "They (Pakistani
side) fired three rounds of
small arms at around 11 AM
towards Tawi area in R S
Pura sector. However, there
was no retaliation from our
side," a senior BSF officer
told.
He said this was the second incident of ceasefire
violation by the Pakistani
side in the last 24 hours.

fired two to three mortar
shells in Nowapind border
out post area along the IB in

The shells exploded at
isolated areas and did not

First batch of Mansarovar pilgrims
to cross Nathula on Jun 21
KOLKATA, FEB 15: The
first batch of 50 Indian pilgrims to take the new route
via Nathula in Sikkim to
Kailash Mansarovar in
Tibetan
Autonomous
Region will cross over on
June 21.
The 14,400 feet high
Nathula, the pass at the
Indo-China border in east
Sikkim, will be formally
opened for the Kailash
Mansarovar Yatra tentatively on June 20 and pilgrims
would be allowed to move
through it a day later,
Sikkim Tourism and Civil
Aviation Secretary C
Zangpo said.
"The batch of 50 pilgrims will be accompanied
by five support staff and
one liaison official. Things
have progressed at a very
fast pace for this alternative
route. Both the Centre and
the Sikkim government are
prepared to handle the pilgrims," he said.
