Day, dismissal at 2:10 p.m. Washington State 2014 Healthy Youth Survey Our district is participating in the Washington State 2014 Healthy Youth Survey during the week of October 13th – 17th. The Healthy Youth survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, risk and protective factors, and access to schoolbased services. Survey results are used by schools, communities and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks. The Healthy Youth Survey is given to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 across Washington State. Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous. A Parent and Student Information Flyer has already been mailed from the District Office for your reference. If you would like to preview the survey questions, a copy is available in our school office. 2014 FLU IMMUNIZATION CLINIC Tuesday, October 14th Tumwater High School 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 20th Black Hills High School 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Getting a flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and your family against influenza. The 2014 “Fight the Flu At School” clinics are presented in collaboration with Tumwater School District and the Seattle Visiting Nurse Association. They are open to students and staff as well as families. Flu shots are not subject to insurance deductibles or co-pays. There are no out-of-pocket costs to participants with a current health insurance card. This includes all 2014 - 2015 LUNCH PROGRAM NEWS Once again East Olympia’s outstanding food support staff will provide your children with a nutritious entrée, salad bar and milk for lunch. The prices for both breakfast and lunch are as follows: Full Pay Student Breakfast Reduced Student Breakfast (Kindergarten - 6th Grade) Adult Breakfast Full Pay Student Lunch Adult Lunch Reduced Student Lunch (Kindergarten - 3rd Grade) Reduced Student Lunch (4th - 6th Grade) Milk only (full pay, free or reduced) $1.50 Free $2.00 $2.40 $3.30 Free $ .40 $ .50 A meal account is created for each student at the time of registration. Both breakfast and lunch are deducted from the same account. Students are not to charge meals, so please make sure your child has funds available. A monthly cost schedule for lunches is included below for your convenience. The list does not include breakfast. If your child’s account is getting low, he or she will receive a reminder hand stamp and/or a green low-balance slip. Please send in money the next school day or they will receive a sack lunch. When sending lunch money to school, please enclose it in an envelope labeled with your child’s first and last name. You can also deposit money on-line through Skyward Family Access. The cost is $1.50 per transaction. The Tumwater Food Service Department continues to offer free and reduced breakfast and lunch prices to those who qualify. If your child participated in the Free/Reduced program last year, you will need to complete a new application prior to October 14th. TUMWATER SCHOOL DISTRICT DEVELOMENTAL SCREENING WHO: Children ages 3 to 5 whose parents are concerned about their development and/or suspect their child of having a delay in skills are encouraged to participate WHEN: Friday, October 17th Friday, January 23rd Friday, April 3rd WHERE: Tumwater School District Board Room 621 Linwood Ave. S.W. Tumwater, WA 98512 These screenings are for children residing in Tumwater School District and they are of no cost to the parent or guardian. During the appointment time, a team of professionals will screen children in the following developmental areas: motor, concepts, language, and other areas as determined. The information will help to identify any developmental concerns that may affect a child’s success in school. Following the scheduled screening, a determination will be made regarding whether a child should be further evaluated for special education services. PARENT WORKSHOP Our District is sponsoring a parent workshop entitled “Positive Discipline” for parents of elementary students. The presenter is Candyce Lund Bollinger. Candyce is a popular local parent educator. She is a mother of four children, has her own private practice and also works for South Puget Sound Community College. Parents have shared they appreciate the supportive atmosphere in her classes, as well as the significant knowledge and insights that she offers. This workshop is the first in a series of three classes and is designed to give parents a map and techniques to facilitate healthy discipline. It will take place at the District Office (621 Linwood Ave. S.W., Tumwater) on Tuesday, October 14th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The class is free of charge and reservations are not required. Childcare is not provided. PICTURE RETAKES Individual picture retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Students needing a retake should bring their original packet with them to present to the photographer. KIDS CLOSET CLOTHING BANK We are continuing to collect used clothing in good condition to benefit the District’s Clothing Distribution Bank. All types of clothing for ages Preschool through 12th grade would be appreciated. However, cold weather items are in big demand as we help families prepare for the upcoming winter. Donations should be pre-wrapped in plastic bags and can be turned into our office or any Tumwater school. LAP NIGHT at Hands on Children’s Museum Thursday, October 23rd 414 Jefferson St. N.E.
