OCTOBER 2014
Dear Black Lake Families:
Welcome to October! Fall has crept up on us and we are quickly starting
to see the change in the weather. Our students are settling in and have
begun to get into the new materials for Language Arts and Math at all
grade levels. In addition to the new materials, our students have also had
the opportunity to visit our technology specialist a few times and are
learning how to work with new forms of technology. As we move into
our school year, here are a few reminders...
Drop off times:
 7:55am for the Highly Capable program
 8:45am for K-6
Supervision is not available before those times so please be sure to hold
your student in your vehicle until then. If your student is tardy please
send them to the office to sign in. Thank you in advance for getting your
student to class on time.
If you need to pick up your child early, please come to the school
office. Do not go directly to the classroom to pick up your child.
Students must be signed out at the school office. When you arrive in the
office, we will call your student up from class.
Visitors to BLE:
If you are a parent, visitor, volunteer, middle or high school student and
you are planning to be on the BLE campus, please remember to stop in at
the school office to sign in and put on a name badge. The safety of all
students is important to us and we want to make sure we know who is visiting our campus. Visitors are not allowed to proceed directly to student areas (classrooms, playground, pods, etc) without signing in at
the office first. In most cases, if you are dropping something off for a
student, the office will be happy to call the classroom to have the student
sent to the office to collect the item. This is least disruptive to the learning process.
Morning drop off/ Afternoon pick up:
We ask that parents wait until they are in front of school before loading
and unloading children. In some cases, parents are encouraging students
to cross the driveway or bus loading area. This is an unsafe situation. We
also request that parents do not walk through the bus loading area to pick
up children. Remember, parents needing to leave their vehicles, even
briefly, are asked to park in the slanted parking stalls nearby. We want to
keep traffic in the driveway moving efficiently. Parents are also asked to
allow their students to walk into the classroom pod area on their own.
Please leave your child at the flagpole area and encourage them to walk to
the classrooms from there. If you need to speak with your child’s teacher,
we ask that you schedule a time to meet with the teacher rather than trying
to catch them at the start of the school day. Teachers are attempting to get
students settled at the start of the school day.
- Misty Hutson, Principal
The ForKids Program is a collaborative effort uniting
local service providers, school districts and the community to ensure that children continue to receive food
outside of school. The food bank delivers food bags
each week to BLE’s counselor. Backpacks are stuffed
and every Thursday the children receive a notice that
reminds them to pick up their backpack from the counselor’s office. This ensures their privacy. If you
would like to participate in the Friday “ForKids”
Backpack Program, please contact:
Kathy Westman @ 709-7366.
