Dear Friends of the YWCA,
Since reopening the pool on July 1 your YWCA has added several
fitness programs, including swimming lessons, Aqua Zumba®,
aquacize and water walking in addition to open swim time and the
opportunity to host your own pool parties. In this program guide you
will find schedules for pool activities, Y-Dance lessons, volleyball
opportunities and more.
We have reinstituted our pool membership fee structure, with options
for everyone.
This is your YWCA and we are here to offer not only fun activities but
also assistance, when needed, through the Domestic Violence
Intervention and Prevention Program and the Women’s Cancer
Program.
Our Dream Big Campaign for moving the domestic violence shelter to
the Oppenheimer House and continuing the renovation of the main
building remains strong. The YWCA recently received a $500,000 grant
for the project, assuring that it will become a reality. More is needed to
make the project complete, so stay tuned for the formal announcement
of our capital campaign.
In the meantime, if you wish to support our efforts, consider the
donation form in this program guide or visit us online at
www.ywcalafayette.org/donate.
Great things are happening at your YWCA!
Happy 85th Anniversary to your YWCA!

NEW GREATER LAFAYETTE
DANCE COMPANY
DANCE DISTINCTION
We are pleased to announce Dance
Distinction, the newest dance troupe
in the Greater Lafayette area.
Directing the company is Y-Dance
Director and McCutcheon Dance
Team Coach, Deedra Newby, and
her assistant, Brittany Hamlin.
The purposes of the company are to
develop dancers from different backgrounds to their fullest potential, to
offer opportunities for growth through
conventions and dance studio
competitions, and to offer dancers
performance opportunities throughout the community.
Because dancers from many different
area elementary schools, middle
schools, and high schools “train” at
the YWCA with Newby and Hamlin,
dancers are not required to relinquish
their middle or high school dance
teams.
Newby’s goal is to pull artistry and
competitive technical elements together by utilizing professional
dancers with whom she is
associated.
A meeting to discuss time and
financial commitments will be held
Wednesday, August 13, at 6 pm.
Auditions are August 15 and 16 at
6 pm. The meeting and auditions are
at the YWCA, 605 N. 6th Street,
Lafayette.
