school as a whole related to accountability ratings and district funding. This all impacts
individual students as colleges and universities look at the ratings of a school and how they
perform in comparison to others. The better we rank the better opportunity all of our
students have. Help yourself and others by having your child at school each and every day.

TWO TEAMS, ONE GOAL:

GENERAL INFORMATION
PSAT:
On Wednesday, October 15th, the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT and National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be administered to all sophomores and juniors on The
Woodlands College Park campus.
The PSAT/NMSQT serves as a practice SAT test and, for juniors, is a qualifying test for the
National Merit Scholarship contest. Conroe ISD is fully funding the cost of administering the
PSAT to sophomores and juniors. Sophomores and juniors will be automatically registered
for the test.
The test lasts approximately 3 hours and will begin the first thing in the morning. All
students will report to testing room assignments on that day. Students arriving late may not
enter test rooms as the test is timed.
FROM THE NURSE:
Just a reminder that Cold and Flu season is approaching, we encourage our students to do
the following to help in keeping themselves as healthy as possible.

Frequent hand washing for 20 seconds.

Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid, kissing, hugging or sharing eating utensils with people who are ill.

Cover your cough and sneezes

Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys, and doorknobs especially if
someone is ill.
HOBY LEADERSHIP CONVENTION:
Attention Sophomores:
The counseling office is accepting applications until November 7 for the position of the next
Ambassador to the HOBY Leadership Convention that will be held May 29 - 31, 2015. This
seminar is designed to empower high school sophomores to recognize their leadership
talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school and
community. This year's convention will be held at Texas A & M in Galveston. Applications
can be picked up from an English teacher or in the Counseling office.
LITERARY MAGAZINE:
Students if you are interested in being part of the Literary Magazine, please contact Ms. Houk
in room 2301.
FREE TUTORING:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 pm – 3:45 pm in the School Library. Offered by the
National English Honors Society.
TWCP- DRIVER EDUCATION CLASSES:
Online registration is now available on-line for the Fall 2014 “Driver Education Classes”
being held at the TWCPHS campus. The class times are held after school on campus. To
register go to www.esc6.net and click on the driver-ed icon located in the right upper corner
of the Educational Service Center Region VI. website. Next scroll down and select the course
that best fits your son or daughters schedule and click on register and it will give you times
and locations. The courses listed at this time on-line are (#175311 and #175313). For
additional information you can contact (936)435-8325 or (936)435-8320 and I will also be
on campus for the freshman orientation on 8-12-14.

To help all students stay organized throughout the school year, College Park Cheerleaders
will be selling student planners during student orientations August 11-13 for $10 each.

I am so excited to announce that our Lone Star College Advisor, Patricia, has started visiting CP this fall!!
She will be here throughout the year, every other Tuesday in the fall, and every Tuesday later in the spring. I would LOVE to have
tons of seniors sign up to see her!

This meeting is typically one on one or small group with Patricia, our advisor. You can complete the application, find out the steps to
be admitted into a particular program (Nursing or cosmetology, welding, auto tech for example). Learn about placement testing and
everything in between. Want to take a few classes then transfer--this is for you as well! If you want to get a head start on this,
PLEASE sign up.

All senior yearbook portraits must be taken at Blu Moon Photography portrait studio. No senior yearbook portraits will be taken at
the school. Please call Blu Moon Photography to set up a portrait session before October 25th.
They have a beautiful two-acre outdoor portrait park as well as a large indoor studio. No other school photography company offers
the outdoor experience, so be sure to include that as part of your session.
Please do not wait. Blu Moon’s schedule fills up quickly. We urge you to call as soon as possible to schedule your seniors’ official
yearbook portrait session.

**Please understand that a student published yearbook as large as ours takes time and our deadlines for class pages come early in

TWCP ATHLETICS
TWCP CROSS COUNTRY:
This weekend the Cross Country team will be hosting its Annual College Park Invitational Cross Country Meet. The first race will start
at 8:00 a.m. All races will take place on campus finishing on the track. Come out and watch our nationally ranked Cross Country
team. The boys are currently ranked 2nd in the US.
TWCP BOYS BASKETBALL:
The Boys Basketball Team will be conducting open try-outs on Saturday, November 8 from 3-5 PM. This is for boys of all grade levels
that are not presently in the basketball athletic period. All paperwork should be on file and all students should be academically
eligible.
The Cavalier Fast Break Club will be meeting Tuesday, October 21 in the LGI. Kurt Kelley will be rolling out important information
for the 2014-15 season!
TWCP VOLLEYBALL:
College Park Volleyball is off to a great start in district play. Currently the Varsity team is 21-6 overall and 3-2 in district. We have 3
home games in a row. October 3rd vs. Conroe, October 7th vs. Atascocita and October 14th vs The Woodlands. Freshman Blue and
Junior Varsity play at 4:30pm and Freshman Silver and Varsity play at 5:30pm. Come and support your Cavalier Volleyball Players!!

Put this strategy to the test for a week. Write down your six most important things to do and put them in order of importance. Start
working on the most important task first. Work until it is one and then move on to the next one. See if prioritizing and working
