News: VICTORY AT BMX NSW STATE TITLES
Last weekend Macarthur BMX Club in Sydney held the NSW BMX State Titles
the weekend was full of heart felt victories and heart breaking loses, and for a
small club from the bush we brought home our fair share of silver wear.
With 14 State plates taken home on the weekend, I’d say we did very well.
Tahlia Marsh fort off her arched rival Page Harding for a well deserved win in the
10 year girls 20 inch, Tahlia has been bitting at her heals for the last couple of
years and this weekend she really took the fight to her to get the very well
received win and NSW number one plate, Tahlia also came second in the 24 inch
cruiser class 11-12 girls, very good riding from a very fast girl. Tahlia is flying out
to New Zealand to compete in the Trans Tasman Test next week and we wish
her well, and do us proud.
Stacey Brown held nothing back all weekend to get 2nd in 20 inch against Chloe
Molan who has defected from our club to Sawtell club last year, the girls put on a
great show and in the end it really went down to the wire, the yelling and
screaming from the Clarence Valley tent could be heard from the next suburb
away, Stacey also took out the win in the 11-12 cruiser girls final, and was 2nd in
20 inch state series and 1st in the 24 inch cruiser class, one very busy girl, and
one very classy rider.
Britney Cole rode well making her dad proud by making the finals in 11-12 cruiser
girls, she missed out on the 20 inch but she took home a state plate as planned,
Clarence River Tourism – “What’s On”
Page 4
well done to Britney, she hasn’t been riding for very long, this is a great
achievement.
Brooke Korb kept it upright this weekend and managed to plate 7th in both 20
inch and cruiser, Brooke was a little weary of the track this time round as at pre
titles she was the walking wounded crashing out three times over the weekend
but when you put your body on the line, sometimes you may get a few bumps
and bruises
Josh Marsh put in a brilliant ride over the weekend in 13 year boys, a very tough
field to snag a 7th in the 20 inch final, a really well deserved plate coming from
the back and cutting through the field in the heats. Josh just missed the finals in
cruiser but it wasn’t from lack of trying, if you have ever seen josh ride its just
magic, but in BMX there is a certain amount of luck, unfortunately it wasn’t falling
his way.
George Cole had his legs spinning like a mad man all weekend and on the
Saturday managed to seal a well deserved 4th in 13-14 cruiser boys but was out
muscled in the 20 inch class and missed out on a plate, a very good ride from a
dedicated athlete who has competed in 10 consecutive BMX NSW State Title
events.
Nick Marsh was strong through the heats and stepped it up to make the final in
the 15-16 cruiser boys and finished up 5th , which is a great effort in this class of
young men, Nick just missed out on getting through to the finals crashing out on
the last berm trying to make the pass of the weekend, which it would have been if
it stuck but that’s racing, Nick said later on , ‘I had to have a go, had nothing to
lose’ Nick did have a good go and it took some guts to try and pull it off, well done
Nick.
Slamming Sam Stanton, where do I begin, with a can do attitude and the body
frame of a bull dozer, not a lot gets round him, he’s fast, fit and on fire, Sam
ranked high in the motos doing a little bit of elbow work with other riders and
giving them the second option of going over the berm instead of going around it.
Sam managed to secure a 4th in 20 inch and 3rd in cruiser a great effort from
Sam an there is a lot more to come so watch this space.
Mr Greg Brown, our fearless president, went into battle against a bunch of blokes
that should really know better to go on to claim two state plates 4th in 20 inch and
8th in 24 inch in the prestigious 50 plus age group, as the men flew past on there
mighty bicycles your eyes were burning from the fumes of the Dencorub, the boys
had a blast as they recaptured their youth and with only a minor incident it was a
great race.
The little sprocket rockets had a great time tearing up the track with Alex Hyatt,
Mal Trevillian and Reilly Landenburger all competing in the Saturday event it was
great to see the little guys down there and being apart of such a major event.
Clarence Valley also had their fair share of upsets with Joel Polsen in the 15 boys
getting squeezed out in the semi finals after doing well all day, a great ride Joel.
Dylan Korb put in his best effort to date making semi finals in both 20 and 24
inch, missing out by one spot does sting a bit for a ten year old but I have a
feeling the crash in 20 inch semi final might of hurt a bit too.
Max Stanton put in a brave effort after crashing out 2 days before the event but
managed to get taped up and solider on and even get through to semis in the 12
boys 20 inch great job Max see how you go when your 100%.
All our other riders from Clarence Valley BMX Club put in there best effort, had
fun and got to have a great experience riding in a State final, the atmosphere was
great with plenty of banter going each way and the barbies and beers were great
to.
For more photos and videos of the weekend, check out our website.
Racing will be back at Grafton on Saturday afternoon, see you at the track.

with spades full of seasoned country music while devouring the best locally-produced tucker in
the region.
It is a recipe for maximum enjoyment, and it’s all on offer at the second annual Clarence
Valley Country Muster on a property just north-east of Grafton in Northern NSW from October
27 to November 2.
The ingredients for this feast of country music include more than 20 artists. Among them are
Terry Gordon O.A.M., Glenn Jones, Lindsay Waddington, The Kross Kut Showband, Marge
Graham and acclaimed bush poet Ray Essery.
Fingers were crossed before the first muster last year when organiser Wendy Gordon decided
to open her property to the festival at Calliope – a tiny but historically-rich hamlet in the lush
Clarence Valley.
There was no need for anxiety. Country music fans – dominated by grey nomads and their
vans – turned up to savour the delights of food, friendship and the sweet sounds of
professional performers.
“The success of the first muster just blew me away,” Wendy said. “But the follow-up was even
more staggering. Given the response to bookings for this year’s muster, I wouldn’t be
surprised to see up to 1500 fans on the property.”
The Clarence Valley Music Muster is held at the same time of the year as Grafton’s nationallyrecognised Jacaranda Festival. And that’s no accident.
“Jaca pulls in thousands of visitors every year,” Wendy said. “The muster offers them another
attraction just a few kilometres down river. The property is close to Ulmarra – an historic river
port village settled even before Grafton itself.
“Ulmarra not only takes you back to a time when the Clarence River was the highway for
goods crammed into sailing ships and steamers, but it now offers accommodation at the
Clarence River Tourism – “What’s On”
Page 22
Commercial Hotel, the now-dry Exchange Hotel opposite and up-market bed and breakfast
outlets Woodfordleigh, Rooftops and Lulu’s.”
Proceeds from the rich raffles on offer go towards easing the lot of sick kids through the Camp
Quality organisation.

Weekend of Rowing - The Clarence River will come alive with boats, competitors and officials,
on December 6 and 7 this year, when once again the river’s two major rowing regattas will be
held at Memorial Park in Grafton.
The Head of the Clarence River Regatta is again expected to draw a large number of schools
to compete. In the past crews have come from New Zealand, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney,
Gold Coast and of course the competitive Clarence Valley schools. The School Boys
Championship eights, the main event of the day, always attracts a lot of interest and
competition is as strong as some of the competitor’s upper torsos.
Sunday, December 7, the Grafton Rowing Club’s annual regatta will be held, with the majority
of teams staying over to compete, plus the addition of the North Coast’s many master
competitors. This regatta has in recent years attracted a record number of competitors.
An outstanding weekend of rowing, both for competitors and spectators.
