October 19, 2014 Twenty-ninth Sunday in ordinary time Month of the Rosary For many generations, October has been a special month for Catholics. This is the month of the Rosary. During this entire month we promote praying the Rosary and Catholic families in every part of the world gather at this time to pray our traditional family prayer. 2699 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30305 404-233-2145 www.cathedralofchristtheking.org WHAT’S INSIDE: Teaching Mass Page 2 Haiti Outreach Page 3 Recreation Page 4 CKS Open House Page 5 SNL—Pasta & Vino Page 6 Vocation Awareness Week Page 7 Hispanic Pages Pages 10-11 Praying the rosary became very popular A statue of Our Lady of the Holy after the battle of Lepanto on October 7, Rosary in the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Rome, Italy. 1571. At that time the Muslim army threatened to invade Europe. Pope Pius V urged all to pray for the Christian army. The defeat of the Muslim army was attributed to praying the rosary. In recognition for that miracle, the church established a new feast day: The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Since that time, Popes and the entire church have promoted praying the Rosary. The use of beads or knotted ropes to count large numbers of prayers comes from the earliest days of Christianity, but the Rosary as we know it today emerged in the second thousand years of Church history. The Rosary will bring great peace and holiness to your life. It is a powerful instrument for conversion, and is the best method of honoring Mary. Monsignor Frank is on Twitter!!
